    1905

Hi, Dennis! Welcome to the forum! You have a .32-20 Military & Police, Model 1902, 1st Change made around 1904. Your gun has a round butt and an action made up of levers and flat springs that is characteristic of the Model 1902. That changed with the Model 1905 which introduced the rebound slide...

    OLD 38 CIC

This .38 M&P was made in 1923 so the serial has 6 digits. IMO, it is valued in the $400-500 range. If CIC has some significance to a niche collector, maybe a bit more. If it is the initials of a previous owner, it probably detracts from value.

Looking for info on a victory model

We started shipping Lend-Lease guns around Fall 1941, IIRC, before the "V" series serials were implemented. Your gun has a V serial and the property stamp on the top strap. So, it is definitely LL. Nice job on the refinish, BTW.

R stamped on the barrel flat

I believe the R means it received service department work during the manufacturing process. Wanting to validate what I recalled, I found this bit of info:

    Model of 1905-4th change, target

It might have been a special order but it was not standard. I suspect it was added after the gun shipped. A letter will confirm how the gun was configured when shipped.

    What do I have?

I believe the sight in post #9 is a "tall thin blade" not a Paine. Irrespective of that, I see no purpose in replacing the front sight. It is easier than an original to see and it fits in with the character of the gun.

    What do I have?

Then, that would make the manufacture date late 1923 or early 1924.

    What do I have?

Well, you have a .38 Military & Police Target, Model 1905, 4th Change from somewhere in the 1922 to 1928 date range. The number under the barrel is not factory and may or may not reflect the actual original serial. Push out the ejector star and read the serial on the back of the star. Then...

Trying to better date my Model 36

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! Well, you hit the jackpot on your first post. Two-bit cowboy is the S&W expert on the Chiefs Special (Model 36). However, if you want to know more about it, you might consider buying a copy of the Standard Catalog of S&W, 5th Edition by Supica and Nahas.

    32 Regulation Police?

S&W ordered stamping the one line Made in USA in May 1922. In the reference I use, some guns with serials before yours were shipping after May 1922 and some guns with serials after yours were shipping before then. It's the old "S&W did not ship in serial number order" axiom. Also, we know that...
