    Speaking of stocks...

Definitely post-WWII. The most significant tell is the rounded gutter corners around the checkering. Pre-war grips have sharp corners. Also, the stamped medallion washers are post-war. Pre-war were milled and open toward the back. Serial puts them around 1951 if they are K frame. They should be...

Forum Search Helped with the Right Answer

The lack of a trademark stamp indicates a gun was made during the WWI years (1918-1921) when all the guns were not stamped, not just the .32-20. The search features on the Xenforo software is better than vBulletin, IMO. I'm glad you got your answers.

    Identification help 5 screw K frame 22lr

Those look like pre-WWII K frame magnas. They are quite valuable on their own. Even moreso than sharp-shouldered magnas.

    Identification help 5 screw K frame 22lr

The 6" is a K-22 Masterpiece that likely shipped in December 1950 or January 1951. It probably shipped with sharp-shouldered magnas. The 4" is a K-22 Combat Masterpiece that likely shipped in May or June 1953. It could have come with magnas or target grips. BTW, I read the CM's serial as K 186667.

    History Hunt

Welcome to the forums from the cotton and peanut covered plains of the Wiregrass! That is a Post-WWII .32 Hand Ejector made around 1948. It is about 200 units above the first known post-war serial 536685. After several significant engineering changes, S&W assigned it as Model 30 in 1957.

Help with ID on grandfather's revolver

That appears to be a Pre-WWII .22/32 Kit Gun. Based on the large trademark stamp, I'd say it shipped in the late 1930's or 1940. Perhaps someone more familiar with these guns like Hondo44 will comment.

    38 Military & Police Model of 1905 - 4th Change ?

Based on other M&P's with nearby serials, April/May 1922. Is it missing the one line "Made in USA" stamp which was introduced in May 1922? BTW, Jeff, if you join the S&WCA for $60 the first year, $50 per year afterward, you can ask the Historian for a MM/YY ship date for free for all your S&W...

    K frame stock question

Those stocks are correct for the period in which your gun was likely shipped: 1st quarter 1934. I can't explain why there is no serial stamp on the right panel. Check it closely for a penciled number which was the older practice which should have ended in the latter 1920's. Since it was S&W's...

Model of 1917 with target sights

The M1917 went to the factory for service in August 1966. It was refinished in standard blue "S <>". The Patridge front sight and rear leaf may have been done then but I suspect they were earlier Pre-war additions because the rear sight is not what S&W was installing in '66 (micro-click). The...

What does lettering a gun mean?

"Lettering" a gun means you have gotten a "Letter of Authenticity" from the Historian at the S&W Historical Foundation. As others have stated, it documents some historical background on the model and to whom, on what date and how the gun was configured when shipped from the factory. Because this...

need some help - vintage K 38 nomenclature and date UPDATE July 16 see last post!!!

From the K frame database, I'm seeing serials around that shipping mid-1950. It was called the K-38 Masterpiece and shipped in a gold box with a black 8 or 9 row knurled SAT, cleaning tools and paperwork. The non-relieved targets were not standard and likely were made later. Would have shipped...

    Pre-Model 10 (I think) Date of Manufacture

Your .38 Military & Police hand ejector likely shipped in the early 1930's. I see guns with serials around yours shipping from 1930 to 1935. The grips are post-WWII sharp shouldered magnas. Your guns would have shipped with checkered walnut, diamond centered round top service grips with a silver...
