Need help choosing good 1st Revolver for a beginner..

Unless you're some die hard revolver guy the other firearms you own cover just about everything and it seems to me that your only interest in owning a revolver is just to bring out to target shoot from time to time. The model 10 or 64 is going to be a really really solid all rounder. Anyone can...

Model 38 air weight nickel. Deal or no deal?

That's not a surprise. The 37,38, and 42 were notorious for cracking. The 637, 638, and 442/642 have had a significantly better record. I wonder if it has something to do with the grade of aluminum

    2025 Model 36-11 Review!

500-600 round update: So far no issues whatsoever. Magtech 158gr gets the chambers a bit dirty so sometimes I find I have to press fresh cartridges in against some resistance. But the over all function and finish of this 2025 production Chief Special is completely unchanged aside from the...

Model 38 air weight nickel. Deal or no deal?

I bet you it's not that you don't like j frames but more that you haven't found the right grips yet.

    Gun Show in Bryan/College Station

I went to the Lakeland Rifle & Pistol club show at LAL this summer and boy was it a total disappointment. While it was a gun show in its traditional sense the guns there were completely unimpressive. Everything was severely over priced. I think I found 3 chiefs there and not a single one was...

Won this on GB S&W mod 60 chief's special .38 no dash

Be careful buying well used revolvers like these on gun broker. Most retailers these days that put these up, typically taken in on trade, have no idea what to check on a revolver other than the trigger pulls, the cylinder spins, and the hammer falls. Secondly, stainless revolvers are exceptional...

If I could find a 60 like that I'd carry it and shoot it all the time.

    Chief Special Saturday

My 36-11 has a round count of about 500 rounds so far. It's not shown a hint of wear on it aside from the blast shield. It's my pocket carry, too. My favorite thing about it is that if it were to ever become problematic I'll just call up S&W and send it off for repair. I have a 637 as a back up...

    Why magna grips?

I don't hold mangas with my hand all the way up on the grip. I leave a little gap and hold the lower portion of the stocks. This aligns my trigger finger better with the trigger and gives me more surface area of the grip to hold on to. Works really well.

What I really like about them is that they don't interfere with case ejection

Newer smiths - Better In Some Ways?

I know I'm the one who made the OP but I do need to say something. There is definitely a shocking amount of Smith & Wesson revolvers that are being shipped to retailers with obvious defects. I bought a 442 last year to ride with me in my travels across the US. It had to go in for service due to...

Need opinions on this warranty work

I had to have my two month old 637 warranty serviced. The hammer was offset hard left causing the hammer to strike the frame, shearing off the aluminum, and causing permanent damage to the frame. After six weeks I've taken receipt of the pistol and they replaced the hammer, trigger, and...

    S&W repair question

Just don't set the expectation for yourself or others that 14 days is normal. Took 4 weeks exactly for my 442 to be repaired (end shake) and 6 weeks for my 637. The 637 had to be completely disassembled and frame refinished due to the hammer being offset to the left which was quite literally...

    S&W repair question

To add to the above: Call S&W. Explain the issue along with information they request. They will email you a label. Place your pistol into a pistol zipper case if you can (they will send it back). Along with the pistol write a note with your name and phone number along with the same things you...
