Converting Static Front Sight of 586 to Pinned Front Sight?

Greetings- So as the title says, I have a 586 (no-dash) that I would like to have converted to a pinned front sight (first owner filed the top flush with the red dot, it is fugly if nothing else). I found another thread with the photos of a gunsmith in these forums who has the equipment and...

    The 66-2 3-inch TrAshland Special

Nicely done. I just did something very similar, though not nearly as roughly pitted as your 66, to a 67-1. I had it completely disassembled and down to bare bones and cleaned it thoroughly. The deep clean helped it a lot, and ended up not having to save anything like you are but it does feel...

    Stocks from Thailand

Been a long time lurker, but I figured now is as good of a time as any to chime in... I've purchased 6 sets of grips from Thailand/Vitoonmakers and they make excellent grips. The boot grips and combat grips for the K/L frames fit my hand far better than the Altamonts. I'm not sure why Altamont...

    New Smith & Wesson Revolvers

Im like that Van Halen fan who likes everything the band has to offer: it is all the Mighty Van Halen. I'm a proud owner a 642-1 PC, Model 66-8, and Model 69 (all 2016 production), but I also own a Model 10-6 from 1969 and a Model 67 (1977). If you shut out any of the S&W generations fir...

    My Last "New" S&W Revolver

When you made it to SE South Dakota, did you make a visit to Gary's Gun Shop in Sioux Falls? :) If so, that is where I bought my 642-1 PC and 66-8 a few months ago during Smith and Wesson Days. :) I've owned at least one SW since about 1999, I think. The addiction is at its pinnacle right...

    Report on J-frame quality control

The 66-8 I recently bought had a barrel that was not properly aligned. Granted, it wasn't off by much (I posted a photo in a different thread), but it was off enough for me to notice and be annoyed by it. I called S&W and without hesitation they paid to ship it back, paid to have a gunsmith (?)...

    Worst customer service ever?

There are exceptions to every rule and nothing is absolute except death and taxes, but I've had nothing but good luck with S&W customer service the few times I've needed help. Likewise, the people I shoot with and know have had similar experiences with S&W. Having a mix of human/automation...

    S&W Bodyguard 38, $405 Shipped

THe BG38 has been sold. I just bought wifey a S&W Shield 9 so the BG38 she used to carry will be collecting dust in the gun safe. It originally came with the Insight laser, but has since been upgraded to the Crimson Trace. Round count is less than 100. Condition is like new, it doesn't have a...

    Finally got me a snubby - 642

Congrats on the 642. Great gun. My only grip is the inability to install a better front sight similar to the 340. I would to love put a night sight on the front of my 642 PC.

    642 Performance Center Spring Questions

FYI: I received a reply from S&W regarding the spring weights on a 642 PC. The spring weights are the SAME, regardless of PC or not. So, my me installing the Wolff springs I did the trigger pull is less than factory specs. I wont complain with the 9.4 lb pull I now have on my 642 PC. :)

    642 Performance Center Spring Questions

Great piece of information. Thanks a many. According to the info and pics you've provided, both springs (hammer and rebound) that were in my 642 PC from S&W were NOT S&W springs. The springs I removed had the rounded ends and were not "ground flat". Now I'm anxious as can be for S&W to email...

    642 Performance Center Spring Questions

I just emailed Smith & Wesson, we'll see what they have to say. If the springs that came in the 642 PC are lighter than typical, then the springs I removed will be installed in to a "soon to be purchased" base model 442 or 642 soon enough.

people like newer guns more than they let on

I'll be the first to agree with someone about all the demerits of the lock on a newer SW revolver. However, ultimately if I'm looking at a S&W revolver that has a lock it would not prevent me from buying the gun if I wanted/needed it bad enough. I can put my 1977 mnfr Model 67-1 next to my...

    642 Performance Center Spring Questions

The trigger action itself is the smoooothest I've felt on any j-frame double action. I have no issues with that, I was only trying to lighten the DAO trigger pull slightly without sacrificing reliable ignition. I didn't think the difference was going to be much and it isn't, I just wanted...

    642 Performance Center Spring Questions

I just installed Wolff springs in my 642 Performance Center. I installed an 8 lb hammer spring and a 14 lb rebound spring and I'm not exactly sure if I'm feeling much difference. I believe it is a bit lighter, but not significant enough for me to go "oh yeeeaaah, sweet!". Anyone know if the...

Very Disappointed with New 627 Pro

Function vs form. True, you should have the best from S&W when it comes to both, but the cosmetic things you've mentioned probably would not bothered me. However, the barrel not being properly aligned to the frame is an issue, it is TOO obvious for me to accept. Matter of fact I've just sent my...

Problem with 66-8: powder fouling causing cylinder to bind

Just a question... are you able to put a drop of oil on the piece that binds during the competition? I'm a bit fan of CLP for stuff like you're describing. I'm at about 54-60 rounds of Winchester/Remington factory loads on my new 66-8 and I'm not seeing any binding as of yet. However, I will be...

    Bodyguard questions???

If you're speaking of the late generation "BG38", with the polymer handle, I can chime in. If you're asking about the original I have zero experience with that gun. With that in mind, both my BG38 and 642 are not difficult to clean lint (etc) out of at all. I actually think much of the issue is...

    M&P 340 (no lock) or 640 Pro

*points above* Mister X said it very well. I do not own either, but I do own a Taurus 605 (2in, .357 w/ exposed hammer, and steel frame), a S&W 642 Performance Center in .38 Special, and a S&W Bodyguard 38 (BG38) I do believe the weight of the gun will be a bigger factor than you may think...

    New Shooter Looking For Advice

Simple is good. The j-frame 442 or 642 is what I recommend. I wouldn't bother with .357 Magnum, much of the research shows you're gaining a lot of recoil, muzzle jump, noise, flash, etc, for a single percentage point (if that) of added ooomph. The .38 Special is what to use, imo. Oh... and...
