Heading to the FFL today to jail a pair of M&P

No, I could probably pick up the magazines sooner, but I need to give the FFL time to install the blockers. I could do it myself, but that would involve illegal possession of a magazines with greater than 10 round capacity. In any event I have plenty of 9mm and 40 cal M&P mags for our current...

Heading to the FFL today to jail a pair of M&P

Mag Blocker - Any new magazine purchased in California or shipped in from out of state can hold no more than 10 rounds. Legacy magazines in state with greater capacity are ok, but they cannot be sold/transferred to another individual. The blockers are used to convert a large capacity mag to 10...

Heading to the FFL today to jail a pair of M&P

Things being the way they are in California my wife and I decided to buy a new pair of M&P (9 and 40). SSE, single shot exemption for you free "staters", may well be done at the end of 2014 making it impossible to get any full size M&P into the state. I've bought mag blockers which the FFL...

    M&P 22 - Most accurate ammo?

I don't see a mention of the "regular" CCI Blazer 22lr. While my M&P 22 is much more accurate than I am, I have found absolutely no functional issue with this brand after about 1000 rounds. Can anyone comment on the accuracy of this ammo? (I see someone beat me to the CCI Blazer by about 30...

    M&P Full Size - .40 to 9 Conversion

The last time I cleaned my 40 and my wife's 9mm side-by-side I put my 40 barrel into my wife's 9mm slide. Surprise, I couldn't get the slide on the frame. Won't do that again. I'm getting a second M&P 40 and will definitely get a conversion barrel so I don't have to "borrow" my wife's 9mm. I...

Two New M&P on the Way

Larry, Thanks. I'm not going to inquire of S&W since the replacement scenario is so unlikely. But it does sound reasonable that some manufacturers may be able to deal with the S/N differently. Better not tell the CA DOJ;)

Two New M&P on the Way

I'll cross that bridge should it every occur, but are you saying that S&W would send a replacement handgun directly to the owner or that an FFL (without SSE) would be able to DROS a non-roster handgun since it's a replacement?

Two New M&P on the Way

Agreed. The doomsday scenario only occurs if S&W determines they need to replace the gun. Granted, this is extremely unlikely, but it has happened. If it's a new gun (new S/N) then it needs to go through an FFL I believe. I suppose you could have it sent to an FFL that does SSE if such is...

Two New M&P on the Way

The handgun situation in California is chaotic, full-size M&Ps will completely disappear over the next several months and there is a good chance SSE will disappear early in 2015. I suppose it could be years, if ever, before the courts remedy this situation. Sooo: wife and I ordered spare M&P...

    New M&P 22 Slide Drag

Understood: I'm just surprised that the liberal application of grease would actually produce the drag. The gun performed flawlessly today. Sights need adjusting so I'll get that taken care of my next time at the range. I'm looking forward to being able to warm up the the 22 on the "cheap"...

    New M&P 22 Slide Drag

Just to close out this thread: picked up the M&P 22 today. Did two applications of frog lube paste (with heat) removing all excess after each treatment. The slide is now very smooth: no increase in drag whatsoever as the slide is operated. Maybe it's a case of two much grease from the factory.

    Frog Lube opinions

I started using Frog Lube when we first bought handguns 3-4 months ago. I'm sure most of the gun-specific cleaners/lubes do a fine job. Certain aspects of Frog Lube happened to appeal to me, the non-toxic nature being right at the top of the list. Many threads mention the expense of Frog Lube...

    New M&P 22 Slide Drag

Our first M&P 22 has seen 400 rounds. Has been absolutely smooth since day 1. I did two of the Frog Lube "warm gun" treatments prior to firing. I don't have a basic for comparison since the first M&P 22 was our first handgun and I probably wouldn't even have tried the slide in the LGS. Took...

    New M&P 22 Slide Drag

One week from now after I've cleaned, lubed and fired the new M&P 22 I'm sure my concern will disappear. The whole CA roster situation is just a source of aggravation and agitation for us left coasters. I may stop in at the LGS today to give the gun another exam; if nothing else I'll exercise...

    S&W Shield Paint Fill In

I "color coded" our 9mm and 40 cal handguns and mags so as to avoid confusion. I initially used the Testor's solvent, but found that I could wipe off a good bit of the excess after a few minutes dry time. A quick rub with CLP removed the rest. I did the side of the mags and the funny S&W...

    New M&P 22 Slide Drag

Thanks for the responses. I'm picking up the gun on the 13th, will clean immediately and run 200-300 rounds through it the next day. That will be a good litmus test. BTW, I couldn't have bought this gun locally since no CA dealer would stock a handgun so close to its "sell by" date. We (wife...

    New M&P 22 Slide Drag

I'm new to handguns and might not otherwise have notice but for the fact that we have a smooth M&P 22 in hand. Using Google I did find a few disturbing threads (and a Youtube) where S&W had to replace the gun; wouldn't be a problem but for our CA roster. I'm going to call S&W tomorrow and see...

    New M&P 22 Slide Drag

I inspected and "DROS'ed" our second M&P22 this morning. We've fired only CCI Blazer: no FTE/FTF and the slide is like butter, maybe 500 rounds down the barrel. I did notice that the new gun has a definite drag on the slide about 2/3 of the way back. I'm sure this will smooth out after a...

    10 round magazine tweak

The Lula works great on the 10 round mags of course, but the 10th round is so tight that it's actually easier to put the 10th round in by hand. All of our mags have loosened up to the point where they are now easy to load by hand (except for the 10th round).
