    New .40 Shield Jamming

This sounds like the same issue I had with my Shield 40. The ammo didn't matter and I wasn't limp-wristing either. Long story short, I had to send it back to S&W twice to get it perfect. At first they polished the feed ramp and swapped the guide rod spring - worked better but still not...

Which model of Shield .40 cal do I want

That makes it CA compliant? Wow, I had no idea. That's so unnecessary and hideous. OP, don't get that one. Narrow it down to safety or no safety. I personally, like the idea of having a safety with 1 in the chamber - my M&P without a safety doesn't carry 1 in the chamber. I know, I know...

    Question/Opinion

Having recently moved to a free state, I purchased my first firearm under a year ago and selected an M&P40 4.25" Pro Series. About a month later I purchased an M&P Shield 40. I've only ever trained with 40S&W - I have about 4,000 rounds in. I recently shot 9MM via a G19 and Shield 9 and I was...

FOLLOW-UP TO: Best Carry Ammo for Shield 40

You're welcome :) I started off with the Hornady Critical Defense .40S&W 165gr as well. My Shield didn't like them like my FS M&P did. Kept getting FTF, likely due to the polymer tip of the bullet. I sent my Shield back twice before it was flawlessly fixed. The polished the feed ramp...

Best Carry Ammo for Shield 40

Best ammo is what you shoot the most accurately with. That said, I use the Speer Gold Dot "Short Barrel" 180gr. (part no. 23974). Hard to find but from the research I've done the "short barrel" version is ideal for the Shield. Supposedly, it expands better than the standard Gold Dots in...

    Mag base plates

I have the Pearce baseplates as well as the NDZ ones. I like the look of the Pearce better but they are a little too long. NDZ baseplates feel perfect in my hand but look weird. I feel that I am more accurate with my baseplates as compared to the standard (non-extended) mag.

Loving these Talon grips and Pearce extension for the Shield

Did you cut out the Talon mag baseplate grip for the Pearce extension or do they make them specific for Pearce now?

Finally Some Shield 40 Chrono Data

I wonder how the 180gr Gold Dot compares against the 180gr Gold Dot Short Barrel

Shield 40 FTF and Bulging Brass Issues FIXED!

No, it was a valid question! :) Had it not been for this forum I wouldn't have stopped to check my brass let alone figure out my FTF issue wasn't an isolated incident.

Shield 40 FTF and Bulging Brass Issues FIXED!

Well, my Shield was originally sent in for FTF issues, not bulging cases. Unfortunately, I never took note of my spent casings until I received the Shield back from S&W the first time. After getting my Shield back the first time, I continued having FTF issues with all types of ammo but also...

Shield 40 FTF and Bulging Brass Issues FIXED!

Wow, they replaced the slide? That's significant. After 4 months of hating it, I'm finally in love with my Shield now.

Shield 40 FTF and Bulging Brass Issues FIXED!

The first time S&W had it for 7 business days, the second time they had it for 9 business days. I would say that's pretty quick turnaround time. I am not factoring in shipping times or the few days you wait for a return label.

Shield 40 FTF and Bulging Brass Issues FIXED!

I'm so relieved it's fixed too - I was about to sell it for a Shield 9 thinking it was just the 40 platform that was screwy. Yeah, there's definitely at least 2 other members that have had recent identical issues. I hijacked their threads so hopefully they will see this and have the same...

Shield 40 FTF and Bulging Brass Issues FIXED!

Hello All, I'm pleased to say that after sending my Shield 40 back to S&W two times within 30 days the issues I've had have been 100% resolved. I originally sent my Shield 40 in for FTF issues. They sent it back to me with a polished ramp, replaced guide rod spring, and adjusted trigger pull...

    My Shield .40 issues

Hi - Like you, I like shooting WWB FMJ and Hornady CD. My WWB FMJ casings don't bulge but the Hornady CD cases bulge as bad as yours do. Adding to that, I also experience a locked slide with ammo still in the mag. I've hijacked this thread a few times - maybe you can read through some of it...

    Gun cleaners

    - Hoppes 9 to clean the barrel, slide, and inside polymer - Hoppes Oil to lube the barrel - Tetra Gun Grease for lube points on the slide - Hoppes Silicone Rag on the exterior slide when done Breakfree CLP was good as an all-in-one but left the firearm too oily for my taste, so I decided to try...

New Shield .40 will not feed rounds consistently.

Thanks. I picked up a few boxes of Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel 180gr. JHP recently but have yet to test them at the range. Do you think those would bode as well as the Federal HST?

New Shield .40 will not feed rounds consistently.

Do you think the polymer tip is somehow to blame? Curious to know the mechanics behind why you might think that.

    DUMB QUESION HERE BUT

Yes, OP is from NJ... -Cliff's Notes- Basically, you can only carry hollow points 1) at home and 2) directly to the range and back - that's it. Otherwise, it's a felony with something rediculous like a 3 year mandatory minimum sentence. You can't even carry hollow points in NJ if you have a...
