Single Action Revolvers for Self Defense?

The story of the guy stopping the robbery was with a Taurus Gaucho (ugh) and the trigger of the Taurus broke off as he tried to fire the 3rd shot. I don't know the full story, I think he still killed or at least stopped the robber(s). I have to get ready for work but I'll read it when I come...

Ruger vs S&W for quality and reliability

I'm thankful to have choices, if you want to own only Smiths, you can do it. If you love Rugers, than you can buy them all day. If you're like me and love both, you are free to do so. I'll even put the bag on my head and say I own a few Taurus revolvers that aren't too bad. If I want to put...

Single Action Revolvers for Self Defense?

The only SA revolver I carry for defense is my NAA .22 LR Mini revolver, or my 4" Mini Master. ONLY because they are so small they allow me to carry when I can't carry anything else. The Mini Master has enough barrel to actually make .22 WMR viable for defense, but it's light, thin and compact...

    Fell for a GP100

This is my .38 GP100 that was one of the Davidson's batch, awesome action, bone stock springs. I never even broke it down, just oiled it. The Altamont Super Rosewood inserts were only about $14 IIRC, and I believe Midway sells the Lett Large rubber bodies for less than $10 a piece if you can...

    Fell for a GP100

I like GP100's a little bit, last I checked I have about 15 of them:) In various "flavors", fixed sight, full lug, half lug, .357, .327, .38.........can't wait for the .22 to come out. They are the "set it and forget it" revolver, especially the stainless models. You load them, shoot them...

Ruger vs S&W for quality and reliability

Some people eat some humble pie sometimes, these guys are like "any real wheelgun shooter has a Freedom Arms, those Ruger Blackhawks are junk" and then you tell them Freedom Arms gets their frames from Pine Tree Casting (owned by Ruger) and there's an Elephant in the room..... Ruger never tried...

Ruger vs S&W for quality and reliability

Some people are just set in their ways or let a bad experience from 30 years ago ruin them from a certain brand. I bought a brand new 617-7 that was complete junk, spit lead and had bad timing. I sold it off for a loss, recently bought a Ruger .22 SP101 that's flawless. My Dad bought a brand...

Any Wheel Guns in the Holster's of LEO's today.

Some states still require security guards to carry .38's, some draconian law probably from the 1930's or something. Although many are changing because businesses don't want warehouses full of millions of dollars of equipment guarded by a guy with a Taurus 82......so now they'll be guarded by a...

How to poop with a CCW

In an unnamed location I used to work at, I went to one of the bathrooms and found a Glock 22 .40 on the sink.......I got it back to the guy without anyone finding out...... Heard another story from another unnamed job where a doctor found a S&W 65 in the bathroom at a hospital, luckily he was...

Ruger vs S&W for quality and reliability

It's Ford vs. Chevy....... I did an informal, impartial "test", two retired NYPD service revolver, my NY-1 64-5 and Service Six .38. Both are DAO and thus SA shooting is removed from the equation. At 15 yards both of them fired every time I pulled the trigger, and put the rounds into an equal...

Need a car/kick around handgun. Glock 43 perhaps?

If it's only for the car, look for a used Glock 17.......they make a million of these a day and 18 rounds of 9mm is decent firepower for a car gun. If it gets stolen you're not out something you can't replace the next day. Used 17's are $350-400, I don't see a point to buy new if it's just...

I will be joining the "ugly gun" club soon...

I think I have two of those security trade in .38 Service Sixes, both have heavy finish wear. I put lighter mainsprings in both of them and a DAO hammer in the one. They both shoot very accurately, I keep one in the side pouch of my backpack that I load up with weights for my fitness "road...

    Nub on lock flag

Just take the hammer out, tape all over every surface except the nub and use a small file to take it off. Putting that flag back in is a major PITA. I don't put Dremels anywhere near any of my guns.

I will be joining the "ugly gun" club soon...

A tool that shows honest use is never ugly, you're not going to carry a gun in a holster daily for 20 years and come out with a safe queen:) I only carry ugly guns, the new or pretty ones are "range queens", they see a lot of rounds but not the rigors of daily carry. I don't own "safe queens"...

Any Wheel Guns in the Holster's of LEO's today.

I'm a PA DOC Corrections Officer and we still carry S&W 65's loaded with .38 +P's. Mostly 65-5's, with a few newer -6's and I think the odd -4 and -3 mixed in. Most have Pachmayr Grippers, some Uncle Mikes for the -6's, a few with the original wood Magna PC's. I love wheelguns and it's fun to...

Best Home Defense round for heavily muscled and fat guys?

.357 Magnum, the original "best of all worlds" round:) Like the 3 little bears, "9mm is much too weak............44 Magnum is much to powerful........357 is JUUUUST right!"

Why I won't mess with strain screws

K22 fan, I have one of the full lug 4" blue fixed sight .38 GP100's, I got it in 2009 or so. It was some kind of trade in that was hardly carried or fired, it was from some sporting goods store in NM. They don't seem to be common, I haven't seen another one since. I also have the same gun in...

    Very satisfied new Taurus owner.

My Taurus 82 is a good gun, it may not win at Camp Perry but it's reliable and goes bang. I had two older 82's that were complete junk. Then again, I have a 1990's production Model 80 and a 65 that have thus far been perfect, nice shooting guns with good actions. Taurus revolvers don't...

I will be joining the "ugly gun" club soon...

Now this Ruger Security Six is ugly.......has about 4 different numbers EP'd on it and scratched beyond belief. I'm almost proud of how ugly it is, it's a solid shooter and a good all around range gun, something to just toss in a backpack with a few boxes of reloads for a range trip. Even the...

Why I won't mess with strain screws

Long story short, I bought a beater security trade in 15-7 about a year ago, but haven't really played around with it until now.The strain screw was pretty much destroyed it was so buggered, but the gun worked. I figured I'd file some off the screw, instant FTF on the first round. I put in a...
