    Henry AR7 Survival Rifle

I've been thinking about getting one of the Hemry versions. I have an original Armalite that I love, great little plinker. Nice story goes with it, wife and I were in a local surplus store, they had it in the case. I looked at it but decided we had spent enough money for one day so passed...

    Ax-Revolver

I heard about these years ago. My understanding at the time was that since the soviets brought their craft down on land they felt the crew might need a survival type weapon if they landed somewhere other than the planned landing zone. Especially if they were way off and couldn't be found or...

Remington Nylon 66 - Mohawk Brown or Seneca Green?

If your gun is a single shot bolt action it is actually a Nylon 10 model not a 66. It was the least produced of all the Nylon series rifles and is quite collectible. Not sure of current values and condition does affect the price even on the rarer guns.

    Barred Owl lands inside house

Never had an owl in the house but have several nesting around here. One big one had a nest in an old shed just down the road. I would see him fly out when it started to get dark and he would land on my security light pole. Stayed there until it got good and dark then he would head off hunting...

    That other Model 60

Some great info in your post, always wondered about the feed throat design and materials. I used to buy the improved parts (Numrich sold them as a set) and replace them as a matter of course in guns brought in for jamming issues unless there was some other obvious cause. Somehow, I'm not...

    A family tragedy in SC

    Firearms in your home ??

I generally keep a low profile around people but most of my neighbors know I have guns. Too many years in the gun business not to be known. Lots of people know me from the gun shop or doing gun shows but don't know where I actually live (somewhere over that way?). UPS, FedEx and the post office...

    That other Model 60

They are good little guns and very popular. Doing gunsmith work I have dealt with a few that had been used a lot! Only 2 common issues I have seen are the nylon buffer at the back of the receiver getting brittle and breaking and the plated feed block wearing out. The buffer usually scatters bits...

    My LGS robbery.

A real shame. Our shop had a similar smash & grab, ran a stolen sedan through one of the front windows. busted through the wall and the heavy cage covering the glass. Snatched a few handguns and one long gun and drove off. Got chased (a cruiser was just down the street when the alarm went off)...

    Primer storage

I have most of mine stored in an old wooden ammo crate that once held surplus 7.62X54R.......... As a former dealer I have a bunch of left over crates and use them to store all kinds of stuff. The primer crate sits on a shelf in my basement workshop which is heated in the winter and reasonably...

    Safari Stuff.

I made an offset funnel for cleaning corrosive salts out of a rifle. Saw a picture of one on Gunboards forums (IIRC, it was years ago) that was intended for use with Lee Enfield rifles. Before that I had been trying the water clean with a regular funnel which could get kind of messy. Have since...

"Native" sword - anyone know what it is?

Pretty generic looking. Guessing you didn't get any info from whoever you got it from? are there any markings near the hilt? If not, I would guess it was made by a local blacksmith but could be from almost anywhere. Farmers tool like a corn knife or machete maybe. Perhaps some type of short...

Winter War - Russian sword - or so I was told - any experts out there?

The letters in the scroll on the blade look more like old German scrip to me than Cyrillic. The overall appearance of the sword also looks more like a style I've seen identified as primarily a German made sword. That doesn't mean a Russian officer couldn't have owned it, the German sword makers...

    Needed a .40 S&W Ammo Burner.

I have owned a few different 40's over the years. Never was impressed with it. The best shooting one I had owned was a Ruger P94 but I ended up trading it off for a rifle I wanted. Had a bunch of 40 ammo, then got even more in a deal with an old friend who was trying to get the price down on a...

Let's see your sporterized Military Surplus Rifles

As to surplus 303 British, most that I have seen in the last few years has been Pakistani (POF) and it is notorious for misfires and hangfires. The problem seems to be the primers. They can be a good source for bullets though if you buy them cheap enough as I have salvaged quite a few. There...

    .41 rimfire cartridge or..?

The OP's rounds look like 41 Rimfire Longs to me. Intended for the Colt "House Pistol" revolvers originally. Made in a 4 shot "Cloverleaf" pattern cylinder and a 5 shot round cylinder version. I have both Long and Short versions of the 41 rimfire in my collection. That indented circle with the H...

    Beretta 84BB

It should have the Italian proof house stamps on the frame which includes a letter code inside a box. This code is the date of proof which serves to gives you the year of manufacture. The dates for these codes can be found online.

    'Tis the Season...

Having worked retail for too long I am pretty much burned out on most Christmas music. Still like some of the real classics, especially when done by the original artists............. My particular hatred is reserved for bad remakes of old classics, anything from Mariah Carey and any version of...
