No trigger over travel on my model 57.

There is supposed to be trigger stop rod in the M57. Maybe the rebound trigger spring is not the correct one, i.e. too long? supposed to only have 17 coils; maybe it is solid stacking. Maybe cut 1-1/2 coils off the existing rebound spring.

    Dovetail sight removal and installation?

Measuring the dovetail width is easy. Just need two identical gage pins and accurate calipers or inside micrometer. This is how I do it and the science behind it.

    Dovetail sight removal and installation?

Always modify the least expensive part OR the most readily available part FIRST. Common sight installations, modify the sight itself NOT the dovetails. One should be able to insert the sight into the dovetail ~25% of the dovetail width before attempting to drive the sight further by whatever...

    Dovetail sight removal and installation?

I guess I will be the first to say it aloud. ^^^That is nonsense. By convention, they are installed from right to left. The dovetail width is symmetrical. There is no mechanical reason they could not be installed left to right. But Why? Unlike, for example Sig sights that by their standard...

Inside of action on new 610 mountain gun.

I have this 4" (3-7/8") 610-3 mfg. 2009. Installed red ramp front sight, action work with hammer axle shims.

    Improvise, adapt & overcome

For the classic P-series Sig I fabricated a spring compression plate to allow controlled disassembly-assembly of hammer strut spring roll pin retention situation. Simple wing nut spring compression, install / remove roll pin, no drama. For installation in the frame, a notched brass punch...

    Not exactly Smithing: Maintaining Stainless

I too like the various grades of 3M scotch pads. Seem to work nicely on firearm stainless steel scratches.

What affordable sight pusher most people use for their Shield sights.

I like using a quality sight pusher, just have to know when not to or when to switch plan of attack with punches. Brass and aluminum punches or round stock can be easily shaped with a common file to fit the sight base properly. Both metals will transfer tattoo the sight base if you do not use...

What affordable sight pusher most people use for their Shield sights.

.............. MGW PRO Sight tool not useful in this situation.

What affordable sight pusher most people use for their Shield sights.

The Shield has some unique sight base architecture with thin bars that exert a lot of pressure on the dove tail sight base that must be over come with controlled brute force. The MGW Pro was not able to move either the front or rear sights, requiring good punch tip geometries, big vise and...

What affordable sight pusher most people use for their Shield sights.

^^This concept is commonly passed along unchallenged, when in fact a careful use of a proper punch technique is the correct first step. Most sight pushers do not impart force on the sight base like a punch, rather they exert force on the upright sight structure attached to the sight base where...

Looking for info on my San Antonio PD issued revolver.

A few years ago I acquired this as-new 65-3 heavy barrel .357, sourced a proper hammer replacement and converted it to double-action-only / bobbed the hammer. Mr. Jinks S&W historical letter provides a nice summary of the provenance of the Model 65. Absent ejector rod shroud is a vulnerable...

    S&W 43c Frustration

I had to tinker with mine a little. This 2020 S&W 43C had tight chambers, had to routinely use a wooden dowel to tap the fired cartridges free, mostly all chambers. Chamber diameters measured with precision gage pins. Used 220-320-600 grit to hone chambers 0.001”+ , extraction problem...

    HomeSmith TrainWreck: Short and Shiny

Very nice restoration project. I acquired this 3" heavy barrel 65-3 a few years ago in as-new condition, only a single cylinder of rounds fired thru it. It is one of my favorite revolvers. This Sig P6 was imported by Century Arms International ("C.A.l") in Georgia, Vermont of all places...

    J-Frame hammer bob reliability

On the J-frame I bobbed a Taurus M85, filed off the single-action notch as well. Functions perfectly.

    J-Frame hammer bob reliability

My favorite is the 640 on the night stand. Bobbed the hammer on the K-frame 65-3 heavy 3" barrel .357 magnum. A favorite 80's FBI carry option. Acquired an as-new example, found a new hammer replacement to bob; dremel cut-off wheel, grind sharp edge, polish, done. Filed off single-action notch...

    Range Rod shenanigans

It is a matter of symantics......I think most think of a "range rod" as squib eliminator at the range, precision tool diameter not relevant to the task. Others, think of range rods as precision barrel bore-cylinder alignment gages when evaluating revolver accuracy issues.

    Range Rod shenanigans

I fabricated some range rods using pin gages with threaded 8-32 brass inserts.
