Years ago Hoppes #9 contained benzine, bad stuff. My 10 year old hands were occasionally soaked in it. I believe that it is eliminated in most products now.

I find it amazing that some people have the skill and the patience to turn out works of art like that. What a beautiful set of grips.

Love this thread, not much interest in 1950/60 vintage model 34's and 36's. Less demand keeps the selection high and the prices low for those of us that really dig the revolvers that we grew up with. That is, if you consider asking prices for decent examples in the $500 to $700 range. :eek:

I'm new to S&W revolvers and I just received a very nice three screw model 36 in .38 S&W Special as new with box and papers. I checked the serial number (677XXX) against the frame and the cylinder assembly numbers (055XX) and they do not match, however the grips match the serial number stamped...

Wipe it down with a bit of quality gun oil on a soft rag. Anything beyond that will reduce value and collectablity. After that wear white gloves when handling.

I bought this one last week, arrived yesterday. Looks like it just walked out of the factory, not a mark on it except for a faint drag-line on the cylinder. 34 "no dash" serial number in the 53XXX range, no box or papers, $499.00. Photos don't do it justice....
