One carries a specific amount of ammunition based on the perceived threat. One carries a spare magazine because it is the weak link in the chain.

It's been a good number of years, but I recall that we kept the pressures in the Smith .45 Colts to around 23k, compared to the Redhawk and Anaconda at 30k.

You can also remove the safety completely and install a flat firing pin retainer, as used on the DAO TSW models.

I picked one up when they first came out. Had the Performance Center convert it to DAO. Carried it as a back-up in an ankle holster for several years. Rubber grips suck. Get the wood or make your own polymer.

Most folks shoot single action. I first noticed it in 1988, while qualifying with the 625-2. I had Art Leckie (Austin Behlert's son in-law) change it out for me.

You can run .40 thru the 610, but carbon will build up just ahead of the case and make in difficult to chamber 10mm, much like .38 Special does in a .357 Magnum. You will need to scrub the chambers with a little extra attention to detail.

The floating hand allowed for less fitting to the ratchet. It was OK for single action use, but made for an inconsistent double action trigger pull. It was quickly discontinued.

The 625 Model of 1988 has a floating hand. Any minor anomaly with the clips or cartridges will cause an irregular double action trigger pull.
