I had actually been trying to by the 1940 gun and couldn't come to terms with the seller. I then found the Pre-27 and bought it. A few days later the seller with the 1940 gun says he's reconsidered and will now accept my offer. I had to do some scraping and some creative horse trading to swing...

Top is a Non-Registered Magnum 4" with King ramp front sight that was one of the 26 guns in the last shipment to KCPD in 1940. Bottom is a 1955 vintage Pre-27 3 1/2"

Had really good luck with .200 grain cast over 5.8 grains of 231 in .44 Special cases in my Model 29 and Triple Lock. Very mild and accurate.

May have an opportunity to purchase a KCPD documented PreWar Magnum. Factory refinished in late 40’s. All numbers match and finish is in about 95% condition since refinish. Curious as to what a fair price would be.

I've always loved old Smith's and have always wanted a Triple Lock. Managed to pick this one up recently. Only down side is the 1970's factory refinish where they added the 4 line address to the frame. All parts number to the gun with the exception of the grips. Overall I'm very happy with it...

Some additional info. After a short search it appears that the 66-5 I'm looking at is a limited run with 3.25" barrel and Hi-Viz front sight and a V-Notch rear.
