    S&W Grip Question

I’ll usually hit up a gun show or something where I can see and feel different stocks before just picking one by pictures

Practice with what you carry conversation got me thinking - UPDATE

Yep train with exactly what you carry. Gun and ammo. Using anemic training rounds and expecting yourself to react the same in a defense scenario with more powerful ammo can create you a problem for sure. Recover time back to target and rhythm probably being two of the main ones Far as real...

J Frame 38 / 357 reloads. How and how many. Speedstrip vs speed loader vs gizmo

Great point on 2 1 2 skips in a 7rd strip. I’ve never messed with skips personally, just cause I like the compactness of straight 5rd strips. But that sure does make sense for consistency in training and will probably help someone out that does use skips

    442-1 for my daughter

Great choice for her. A hammer less J is a very slick on body carry or purse gun for ladies. Being that it sounds as though the area can be sketchy you can also let her know that if she needs to she can have that little gun completely at the ready without anyone knowing it. That’s one of my...

J Frame 38 / 357 reloads. How and how many. Speedstrip vs speed loader vs gizmo

Yep kinda why I posted this. Noticed there are a lot of new revolver folks in general nowadays. Thought it would be cool for those folks to see how some of us have been doing it for years so they can try different ways to see what works best for them Also worth noting since speed strips are...

J Frame 38 / 357 reloads. How and how many. Speedstrip vs speed loader vs gizmo

How do y’all prefer to carry your j frame 38 or 357 reloads Speed strip, speed loader, other gizmo And how many 38/357reloads do you carry for your J frame When primary carrying my favorite 38 J 438. I carry one reload on a speed strip. When carrying it as a BUG I don’t carry a reload for...

Converting J frame to shoot 9mm

Literally the whole past page man. And your post I just quoted where you asked me to quote you in context Your endorsement of 9mm in aluminum j frames. You mentioned just above you have three aluminum j frames that are converted This one you insinuate just swapping to a 357 cyclider...

Converting J frame to shoot 9mm

Cool then it rules that out Can you answer the question I asked above Being that you have an aluminum j frame. Would you say it’s safe put a 357 cylinder on it and run 357 ammo in it Do you see where my conundrum in this whole thing is. No one will endorse using a 357 cyl and ammo in an...

Converting J frame to shoot 9mm

I’m not arguing either man. I stick with what the guns are marked for. I may be playing it too safe. Who knows I’m just reluctant since the factory doesn’t make an aluminum framed 357. From a manufacturing and marketplace standpoint it’s hard to believe that smith wouldn’t make an aluminum...

Converting J frame to shoot 9mm

As I posted above on this page. I actually hope I am proven wrong on the true rating of the aluminum frames. I’ve told so many people no over the years when they ask if I convert cylinders for 9mm. I already wrote my CNC program to do it years ago but never have done it for anyone I’ve always...

Converting J frame to shoot 9mm

I see that a prototype was done then. Did they also do a production run for the public. Some of my interest and subsequent reluctance with the 357/9mm in a 38 frame thing comes from many folks contacting me to ask if I will run conversions on my CNC for them. I have the programming already...

Converting J frame to shoot 9mm

That’s pretty cool. Was hoping it was a titanium cylinder hens teeth gun to look around for one I see it says allow but doesn’t specify aluminum or scandium. That would be an interesting determination to figure out for sure

Converting J frame to shoot 9mm

Fact. That is what they are marked rated for from the factory. No popcorn needed Now can you answer the two questions I posted that you skirted away from. Will you personally take responsibility for someone installing a 357 cylinder and using 357 ammo in an aluminum 38 j frame? Post the...

Converting J frame to shoot 9mm

I’d like to read about the 942 you mentioned. Web search doesn’t pop up a good page with info on it. It’s probably the same setup as my 296 was. Airweight as in scandium frame

Converting J frame to shoot 9mm

The stamping on the barrel restricting it to 38 is what the factory rated those frames for. Which is what my stems from is based on Post the calculations that support your claim that the aluminum j frame is engineered to handle 357 and 9mm

Converting J frame to shoot 9mm

If it were engineered for it it would be marked 357 not 38

Converting J frame to shoot 9mm

Yep they would market is as 38 or 357 so folks would know they do not have to shoot 357 if they don’t want to It’s basic manufacturing. Why would you make two different things when you can make one and cover both segments Specifically when you could put a 500 dollar 357 on the market. Rather...

Converting J frame to shoot 9mm

Will you personally take responsibility for someone installing a 357 cylinder and using 357 ammo in an aluminum 38 j frame?

Converting J frame to shoot 9mm

Correct I don’t know anyone. Manufacturer or gunsmith that would take responsibility for installing, or, telling someone to run a 357 cylinder and ammo in an aluminum 38 frame that’s marked for 38 or 38+p

Converting J frame to shoot 9mm

See last post If the aluminum in smiths engineering opinion would handle 357. They would just chamber them all for 357 since you can still use 38 also. There would be no need to manufacture a 38 only marked j frame Less cost for aluminum frame. Conquer affordable pocket 357 and 36 market with...
