I wouldn't be in a big hurry to do anything with it yet. It deserves a letter. I would almost bet that it has a LE history behind it. Once you have the ship date, hit up the SWHF for other possible docs (service records, factory correspondence, ect).

I bought an AR-10. Didn't really like the feel of the Ruger. It does all that I need, and is pretty lightweight.

To my eye, it looks like a replacement sight. The pins look flattened, and the sight base is wider than the barrel rib. I don't see enough detail in the photo to tell if the barrel was cut or re-profiled.
