    Stevens 311 SXS

Have a Springfield M5100 - basically the same gun with different markings. - A 12 ga. with 28" Mod/Full and choked VERY tight!

    Anyone else apprehensive?

No, but the habits of an old LEO don't just drain away. I hate crowds - and when I for whatever reason find myself in the mix - can feel the increased stress of trying to watch everyone, watch for 'tells' of suspicious behavior, gang affiliation markings, all the things that places us in...

AR pistol braces? What's going on?

Some years ago when I purchased a Sig PM400 AR pistol with brace, it CAME with a copy of an official ATF letter approving it's possession and use by any lawful John Q. Public. I laminated that letter and it goes in the case with that firearm everywhere it goes. ANY average member of LE would...

The One That Got Away Before You Knew What You Were Doing

Mid-90's, I was struck by a case of M1911-itis and needed funds. Had a S&W Ashland edition M66 3". A fellow gun geek buddy at work said he'd give me $375 for it - I sold it to him for that. At the time, a 3" M66 was considered just a slightly unusual barrel length. It was NOT a sought-after...

    617 After Reaming Cylinder

Did this a few years ago on what I called my ".21 cal. M63", using a Brownell's .22 finish reamer. Liked the gun, but the chambers were so incredibly snug that I rarely took the trouble of taking it to the range. And, regardless of ammo used, after 2-3 cylinders-full of ammo fired, it became...

    What's up from NC

Welcome from NC Crystal Coast! Retired from Raleigh PD, but before and after that career, chronologically, I worked at Hill's Inc. (a true ole-time gunshop, closed now) at 1720 Capital Blvd, and almost 30 years later as 'retirement jobs' worked at Perry's Gun Shop in Wendell (LOTS of stock) and...

    my Old '97

My M97 came from an estate that was being handled by the LGS I was working p/t at. It's a c.1930's 'Police Model' meaning it's a 20" cyl. barrel in surprisingly good condition. Very slick - a few handling/work marks. Wish I knew it's history. Have had fun with it - used it some helping a...

    Converted .455/.45ACP

Many years ago, I had a Brit .455 HE that'd been converted to .45 Colt. Shot it quite a lot, and had a friend who had access to some machining equipment, and he made me several ultra-thin half-moon clips for .45 ACP, so many, many .45 ACP rounds were fired in it also. I did handload back then...

    Another 'leather lesson' learned....(Update)

Update on the Craft Holster customer service - They quickly replied to my email advising my concerns over their lack of quality control and my desire for a refund. They sent a return form to be completed and asked for pics of: #1 The M39 pistol, #2 the holster #3 the gun in the holster...

    Another 'leather lesson' learned....(Update)

Thanks Wyo - Just ordered a MTR scabbard for my M39. The price-point was in-line with where I wanted to stay, it's made in the USA and with shipping costs it ended up within a few dollars of what I paid for the ill-fitting Slovakian holster, which has now been returned.

How Bianchi Used To Deliver Holsters

Bianchi always brings back memories of my first real 'paycheck job' at a LGS when I was ~16 in 1974. We carried nearly the ENTIRE Bianchi line and it was often up to me and sometimes another young clerk to inventory them. This is when inventorying meant a legal pad, a pencil and hash-marks...

    Another 'leather lesson' learned....(Update)

I own several nice pieces from El Paso. Great products - I was just trying to stay with a lower price-point. That always comes at a cost...... I did email Craft CS, waiting to hear back. We'll see.

    Another 'leather lesson' learned....(Update)

Yep, I'm a good one at re-learning the adage of "you get what you pay for". Wanted a decent scabbard style ('Avenger'/Bruce Nelson design) OWB RH holster for my S&W M39. Of course, this is a many-years discontinued pistol, so the offerings were few in the price range I wanted to go. I had...

Model 67 convert to 357 mag?

Long ago, in the '70's I worked p/t at a large LGS that had been in-place a long time. Do recall the owner, who'd been in the business a LONG time occasionally lengthening the chambers of a M36 to accept .357 for certain customers he knew well. The idea was not for it to regularly fire .357...

Model 67 convert to 357 mag?

Think before I did that, I'd handload something on the order of duplicate .38-44 cartridges. (158 gr hardcast LSWC or LSWC-HP's @ ~1200 fps). Load those a lot for my .38-44 HD, use them in other .357's and have shot them in M10 .38's. In field performance, I daresay there's not much difference...

Problem with M&P 10mm + Customer Service Nightmare

Sorry the OP had to go through all the mess...... - I'd be in worse humor than him. Makes me a little more OK with my only 10mm's - my prior-duty M1076, boringly reliable with every level of 10mm load and a Colt Delta Elite SS with Novak adjustable sights - also has been surprisingly reliable...

Why I work part time at a gun shop

My first two 'retirement jobs' were at a couple of busy LGS's. Most of my 'good quality' hardware and S&W's came from that. One of the shops handled a LOT of estates, and I was fortunate to get some great deals from that. BUT - eventually suffered 'retail burnout'. Working through some of the...

    9mm Black Talons

BT's are an example of pure marketing genius as well as bad judgement. Starting to fade now, but for a time ANY caliber BT's held near Urban-Legend status. Somehow got confused with "cop killer" bullets that were being covered a lot in the media at the time. No relation whatsoever. Technology...

    Ashland 60 Value

Back in the mid-'80's I was a 'back pocket FFL holder' and ordered lots of stuff from Ashland via Shotgun News. Sold MANY of the M60 Targets to LE co-workers, and IIRC they were priced very attractively. Ashland was great to deal with - very prompt and service oriented. Sure wish I'd gotten one...

    Rock 38s

Bought a RIA 'GI Model' M1911 5" in .38 Super a few years back. I kept expectations in line with it being a 'beer budget' pistol. Did some work to it, sent slide to Novak for good carry sights (I can't do GI sights), polished ramp and chamber, replaced unknown jungle-wood grips with VZ...
