    Browning & Remington pocket pistols

Some years back picked up this Remington M51 .380, s/n puts it at c.1919. Surprisingly accurate, but really don't shoot it much. The Pederson design was genius.

Firearms you are embarrassed to admit owning

Here's one - looks like it was made in a HS metal shop on a Friday afternoon - a Cobray Arms .410/.45 Colt. Found that with .45 Colt it's accuracy is sufficient to hit a pond - if you're close enough.;)

    10mm Knowledge?

Been messing with 10mm since my LE agency (retired now...) had it as our first auto in 1989/1990 in the S&W M1076. Our duty round was the '10 LITE' by Federal and Remington - and paved a good track record for ~10 years. This provided me with a near-lifetime supply of good reloadable brass...

    1911 .38 Super

Had been interested in the .38 Super cartridge for years, and of course being a M1911 fan, finally ran into one at a great price - a RIA M1911 5" 'GI' style no-frills pistol. Did a small amount of work to the pistol, shipping the slide to Novak for sights, polished the ramp and chamber and...

.357 bullets for deer - experience?

Thanks sir - I've actually loaded that bullet, except in HP form in .38, intended for a S&W Heavy Duty 4". In HP form, it's just a tad lighter, so a wee bit more 2400 was put behind it. Shoots exactly to POA in that ol' .38 HD, and I like that it shares a similarity with the 'Hi-Speed' loads...

How “scarce” are .38 M & P Model of 1905 4th change revolvers with round butts?

One that I picked up at a live auction where stuff seemed to be being sold at very high prices. Seemed almost no one was interested in this HE 4th Model RB .38, so it came home with me. (- It's a poor pic taken with an earlier cellphone - grips are near-perfect Walnut)

    Greatest 9mm Ever Made

This has been fun reading, especially as I am a BHP fan and somehow have accumulated far too many 9mm's - it's all kinda blurry - not sure how it happened....;) But - they all have a place....... Small to large..... Kahr PM9 (bought in the 90's when it was about the ONLY 'tiny 9') S&W M&P...

I done stepped out on S&W...and I liked it! (New wheelguns)

I too, have swerved out of the old S&W lane. Have shot this thing and it seems to do all things well. If nothing else, it'll make a useful doorstop. A leftover from 1979.

    Model 39s on 3/9 Anybody?

Got interested in them just a few years ago. Traded a Colt Combat Commander 9mm for it. Never could get acceptable accuracy from the Colt, even with a Bar-Sto barrel in it. The M39 initially had OE black plastic grips on it - that was a no-go for me. Sourced some OE Walnuts for it. Great...

    A Chinese Hand Ejector Copy

Very interesting - have never seen a Chinese S&W clone, only 1911's. Pretty sure whoever bought that initially had their credit card info stolen. ;)

    .38 Special: Best Wadcutter For Self-Defense ...

Personally, I'd have much more confidence in the long-track-record .38 Spl. +P 158 gr. LSWC-HP. Even if it does not expand, it will perform above the level of .38 Spl. WC target loads. Alternately, the Speer SB 135 gr JHP's also have pretty good track record. Deadly force encounters are dynamic...

Favorite S&W revolver side plate screwdriver

I actually use a S&W 'S.A.T.' (sight adjustment tool), ground and stoned to fit. It's 'semi-hollow-ground'. Works.

I think model 34’s are just too small for me…..

Good thread...... Ciphering more on this semi-phenomenon...... I have shot my M63 4" and M18 4" from sandbags with a variety of ammo, finding of course that each has a slightly different preference. Still - the M18 shoots much tighter groups than the M63. You'd think that SA, from a sandbag...

I think model 34’s are just too small for me…..

Thought I was the only one! Have a M63 4" with J frame Combats on it. Have shot it side by side with my M18, 4" with smooth K targets on it. I have large hands. I just can't get groups out of that M63 like I can the M18, either DA or SA. The little 63 still is a handy woods bumming piece.

.357 bullets for deer - experience?

Thanks Ed - I am fresh out of .35 Remington guns, and would have to resort to my .35 Whelen, a T/C Encore in S/S. I will occasionally hunt with it, but to be honest - have found it a bit boring. It actually slams the deer down in-place, which I know is supposed to be a good thing. I'm in an...

.357 bullets for deer - experience?

Just a small update: I've continued to try a few different hunting-appropriate loads. Right now, I'm using quite a bit of AA powders since that what I have most of. Shooting the Python from a rest at paper at 25 yards with upper-level charges of AA-7 have observed the following. (And no, I'm...

.357 bullets for deer - experience?

Much could be said of the Rossi M92. I'm no fan of factory 'buckhorn' sights and find them pretty crude. I changed my 16" Rossi to a peep rear and small Hi-Viz front and the combo is hard to beat. Quite a bit longer sight radius, better in low light, and pretty fast acquisition . Overall, the...

.357 bullets for deer - experience?

I had mentioned that up 'til the current, the only deer I'd taken with anything in .357 was with a handy little Rossi 92 16" carbine. It was a 6 pt. Whitetail buck facing head-on at about 50 yards. Shot it center-of-chest with a Barnes factory .357, 140 gr TSX all-copper HP. He did a back-flip...

.357 bullets for deer - experience?

Forrest r - thanks, great post. - I've always been interested in the process of swaging and using spent brass for the jacket, just never knew anyone who actually did it. My era of reloading goes back to the old C-H (?) swage presses that used purchased 1/2 and/or 3/4 jackets, lead wire, etc. -...

    Take pity on a no-nothing on M1917s

Some years back, got a near-pristine S&W M1917. Looks almost unissued. Concave grips, but no grooved hammer. Came from a friend who had little interest in such hardware. A check with S&W Historian Roy Jinks showed a ship-date of February 1918. It literally became my ONLY 'safe queen'. I set...
