    Illinois State Police S&W

That's the 75th Anniversary commemorative gun. Personal purchase in 1997. It's a 5904. I forget what they cost new. We're doing our 100th Anniversary commemorative gun now. The issued gun is a Glock 22 but Glock said they weren't currently making 22s so the 100 yr is a Glock 17. Glock isn't...

    Winchester Model 88 project gun

I bought my Pre-64 in 1967. .308. Paid $95 for it, a Weaver 4X scope, sling, and 16 rds that remained in the box of W-W Silvertips. The previous owner fired the 4 rds and was ready to sell. I never researched when mine was made altho it's a pre-64. Serial number 134XXXA if anyone has data...

    PPK With Issues

My older blued Interarms PPK/s sometimes will be contrary removing the slide. Have to get it in exactly the right position, say a few magic words, and then it will lift off. Other times no problem.

    M-49 Bodyguard

I bought the blued 49 in 1975 and carried it everyday as my 2nd and off duty for 20 years. Usually in an ankle holster unless the weather was really sloppy snow then it was in a shoulder rig under my jacket. When I went into plain clothes I still wore it everyday as my 2nd. In 1995 I picked...

    LEOSA quals today!

I don't know who it is that doesn't have a definitive answer but both questions have been answered a long time ago and are clearly defined. If a person would read LEOSA they would know the answers. 1) magazine capacity is not covered by LEOSA. Nothing in LEOSA is mentioned of mag capacity. 2)...

    5904 question

My dept issued S&W autos for 32 years including the 5904. As many as 2300+ guns on the street at any given time. We were the first large agency to go to autos and did a lot of testing, recommended modifications to S&W, and run a lot of ammo downrange. All of those S&Ws had the mag disconnect...

    Police sniper distances

I was a sniper with my dept for 10 years in the late 70s/early 80s. We used the term riflemen not sniper. I was issued a Remington 700 ADL in .30-06 with a fixed power 6X Redfield. Some of the team were issued Winchester 70 in .30-06. Issued ammo was 125 gr JSP. Mine was a great shooting...

    Pocket 22 pistol

I've had 2 Iver Johnson TP-22. Gave one to my son and kept this one. I've run a couple of 1000 rds thru this one and not one problem. I carried them on the farm as they easily carried in the pocket. If you can find one. I haven't seen one for sale for quite a while.

    59-series curved insert

Not really. Different shape. I had a set of pachs on mine with the arched backstrap and it made the grip too big for my liking. I never checked around for what might be available in wood.

    59-series curved insert

This is my 459 I carried for several years as a LEO. For me the arched backstrap made a big, positive difference.

    5904 pistol question.

I don't recall now. That was 22 years ago. When we transitioned to a new gun I bought all my old issued ones except for the 439 which I very rarely carried. Those of us on SWAT could carry a 459 but we had to buy our own. I bought a 459, had our range guys doing a nice tune up, and the 439...

    5904 pistol question.

The 5904 was my dept's issued pistol until we went to Glock in 1999. When we got our Glocks we were allowed to purchase our 5904. I had been issued the 5904 and a 6904 and mostly carried the 6904. My 5904 had almost no wear. I bought it and later was also able to buy the 6904. I don't...

    Strange Model 39

Nope. That was done by hand stamp. Who ever did it stamped each individual digit. The lettering isn't evenly spaced, the digits aren't 'level', they aren't the same depth, and some aren't straight. It doesn't match the restamp type that ATF uses.

Going very well. Highly recommend it.

    ISP Pre-14

Yours may have very likely gone to an ISP Troop. Prior to going to the Model 39 Troops had to buy their own duty guns. They were not issued equipment. Fishman's was the usual purchase location for all police guns from all agencies in the area.

    FBI Cant

The design is to aid in concealment under a jacket, etc. By canting the firearm about 15 degrees it makes for a narrow up-down vertical profile. You can prove this to yourself by taking any handgun, laying it on paper, and drawing vertical lines on each side of the firearm.

6906: Help with sights and Is It an "Evidence" Gun?

Maybe you didn't mark all the evidence where you were but that wouldn't have made it far in the courts around here. I guess in all those many murders you worked you never sent a gun to the lab and seen what they can do to them. Or had a gun sit for years in an evidence vault covered in blood...

6906: Help with sights and Is It an "Evidence" Gun?

But they know all about police work, evidence, and chain of custody. They watch all the crime shows on TV and see how the TV cops do it. They've watched some really serious murder cases after 9 PM. They know all about it.

    Felons and Black Powder

Once again an example of someone who does not understand the law when they read it, if they've actually read it. Read the very first post in this thread. The question is about blackpowder guns. Just being a blackpowder gun does not make it an antique. Here is the federal definition of an...

    Smith and Wesson model 59

If you don't like the flat boxy feel of the 59/459 guns then look for an arched backstrap. It does add a little more bulk to the grip but it gives it a completely different feel. At least for me it was a major improvement.
