Looking for options on a model 29–2

I have a beautiful model 29–2 N 5 digit serial number 6.5” gun, with the exception of the finish being bad on the front red ramp front sight. There is no other signs of finish wear on the entire gun. It looks to me like somebody had blackened the front sight out, and somebody else tried to clean...

    Smith 686 ID help

If it does not have the M stamp And it is in excellent condition especially if it has a box I would not worry about having it repaired unless it's causing trouble, I have multiple 686 without the M stamp, one of which I have put more than 100,000 rounds through it and dry fired it two times...

    Model 686 Midnight Black

I may be wrong, which somebody on here will tell me, but I believe that is the only Model 686 with a case-hardened trigger and hammer, Which I think by itself makes it unique. Tom

    Model 686 Midnight Black

Most guys are going to tell you that the finish is extremely fragile, which it is, and that most people shy away from them because of that but remember they're stainless steel underneath so unless it's a perfect collector shoot it all you want! I have one and its new in the box that doesn't have...

What are some of the 21st Century instant classics?

I have very limited concerns about the desire for the revolvers to fade into oblivion or being taken over by modern Glock collectors or plastic guns. The semi automatic has been around since before the 1911 was designed So we are approaching 125+ years of semi automatic guns The popularity of...

What are some of the 21st Century instant classics?

The Smith & Wesson model 29–7 was made in the year 2000 and are extremely rare. It is the same frame as the Model 629-5 pre-lock guns, It was made as a series for Lew Horton in which 40 were produced, As it stands right now there are 2 on the serial number found list of the Lew Hortons, There...

Picking up a haul of P and R legends next week..

This is a prime example of “ How bad does the sickness get?” I do believe Richard has shown us, especially for somebody that’s only been collecting a little over a year! Congratulations Tom

    Miss marked Freaks

Some pretty cool guns so let's ask a question does a miss mark make much difference in the collector value? Or does it have to be a super freak to ad more collector value?

    Miss marked Freaks

Bob, It's not a dumb question to ask because if it wasn't it could lead to a very serious situation because a cylinder is certainly 44 magnum I have shot this gun quite a bit, it's extremely accurate. If you will look back at the picture in my second post you will notice the end of the muzzle...

    Miss marked Freaks

“Hi Tom, that's a great thread starter! How did you come across that one? Did you discover the mis-mark? Todd” No I did not discovered it myself, I bought it quite some time ago. The original dealer back in 1990 sold it as a miss marked, I think it’s pretty cool to have the paper trail with...

    Miss marked Freaks

Here’s one of my entry in this category. Post yours up! This Classic Hunter model 629–2 6” 44 Magnum evidently was not looking for its full potential since the barrel is stamped “357 Magnum” Tom

686-4 round butt with 6 inch barrel question.

Probably just a held over frames and more than likely both very early 686-4 and 586-4 I’m not 100% but I believe the model 686 and the model 586 are on the same dash series Tom
