Increase in max load data with Unique for 38's

In the 2005 edition of the Alliant load data it lists 4.5 gr. of Unique as the max charge for 38 Special+P with 158gr LSWC (no brand specified) but the current data lists 5.2 gr of Unique as the max charge but this time they list a Speer LSWC. What gives? Should I be able to safely use 5.2gr...

Lee Factory Crimp vs Taper Crimp die ?

My Marlin .357 Magnum Model 1894 needs oversized cast lead bullets and I found that the Lee FCD was downsizing my .359 - .360 bullets down to .358 so what I did was buy another seating die, just the barrel without the seating plug from Lee and put that in the 4th stage of my turret press for...

    How can this happen?

I don't need or use case lube for that cartridge so that isn't it. I'm never going to know what the cause was and I'm starting to make comments without thinking, like the corn cob granule stuck in the flash hole above, so I'm just going to continue as before, being careful, and hope it doesn't...

    How can this happen?

I thought of that, Jesse, and most likely the cause, a granule of corn cob stuck in the flash hole. My procedure is to invert and tap every case on my reloading bench prior to putting it in the shell holder but I could have missed that particular one or maybe that didn't dislodge a granule. On...

    How can this happen?

Thanks Rancher, I do know that but I appreciate all reminders especially when it's a safety issue. I reloaded today, decapped first, and then manually cleaned the primer pocket.

    How can this happen?

I'm thinking that I may just start to clean the primer pockets of the cartridges before reloading either manually or by de-capping before tumbling. I guess that it's possible that if there's a lot of residue around the circumference of the primer pocket when priming, the primer could be crushed...

    How can this happen?

Thanks to all for the responses. To answer MMA10MM and others: The powder, according to Accurate based on the Lot# is from 1999. They told me if it had been sealed and had no noxious odor it would be fine. The powder was not contaminated with oil or water. The powder was not subjected to high...

Unique Powder: What is it good for?

I use it a lot for both 38 and 357, like it a lot, meters just fine if I tap the Lee powder dispenser with the micrometer adjustable powder bar just before charging the case and I don't find it very dirty at all.

    How can this happen?

Yes, I'm positive because I separated it from the others, and it was the one with the spent primer and a bullet pushed far down in the case from when I used a dowel in the barrel to drive it back into the case. The powder is old, I bought it from an individual, it was sealed when I bought it...

    How can this happen?

I forgot to mention that the primer was a WSP (non-magnum small pistol)

    How can this happen?

At the range yesterday, after shooting my .357 magnum Marlin, I decided to shoot some of the cartridges that I had loaded for the carbine in my Model 19-2. After about 20 rounds I had what I thought to be a dud. After waiting 15 seconds I tried to open the cylinder and was unable. I then figured...

What Did You Reload Most Recently?

Yesterday I loaded just 10 .357's with Lasercast 158gr LSWC, 12.4gr of AA#9, Starline brass, CCI 500 primers to see if the Lasercast do any better than the lead bullets I was previously using for my 1979 Marlin Model 1894 with microgroove rifling. At 50 yds. my previous groups looked like I had...

Model 19 hammer won't cock double action

Thanks Lonny for the detail provided in the photo and description. When I had the gun apart and trying to figure out the cause of the problem I should have noticed the gap between the rebound slide and the trigger long before I did. Since the gun is now back together and currently operating...

Widener's has Wolf primers in stock again

I was completely surprised last week when I called the local Bass Pro and they said they had CCI 500 primers. I had them hold a brick for me. When I got there I asked how many they had left and he said just one more brick. I left it so someone else could have a great day. They said that they had...

Model 19 hammer won't cock double action

Thanks H Richard. I ended up using a little gun oil sparingly applied with a Q Tip rather than the Lithium. It's now back together and working fine dry fire.

Model 19 hammer won't cock double action

YEA!! It's fixed! I decided to take one more crack at it. After looking at it again it looked as if maybe the rebound wasn't going all the way forward so I cocked the hammer, stuck the plastic tip for the brake cleaner into the hole in the front side of the trigger that the tip of the rebound...

Model 19 hammer won't cock double action

Thanks, I appreciate all the help I've been getting. I'll return to checking it out tomorrow, and check the cylinder stop. I'm going to be getting the evil eye from my wife before long, all I've been doing the last 2 days has been related to that gun and it's my turn to cook dinner. There's been...

Model 19 hammer won't cock double action

I'm not having a good day, after filling out a reply and inserting photos I lost the reply so here goes again. Today I removed the sideplate and cleaned it with brake cleaner. I can see what the problem is but don't know what's causing it, nothing appears to be broken. After dry firing the...
