    Another disappointing gun show

I have a friend that sets up at Lakeland for every show that the Club has there. He specializes in M1911's. I am not sure of the sizes now for the shows there. The winter show (January) was 600 tables and the April & Sept shows were 300 tables. last time I was there it was in two different...

Tom Wolfe in the book "The Right Stuff" called it the "Drinking & Driving Club". On deployment we were the "Flying & Drinking Club".

    Another disappointing gun show

Where was a 1300 table gun show? The biggest one here is Fla. is the winter Lakeland Gunshow and it was billed as 600 tables. I have been to the old L A County Gun Show many over 30 years ago at the LA County Fairgrounds. The big show was billed as 13 miles of tables and the smaller show was...

There is a term called Temporary Additional Duty (TAD) for when you are deployed to various places. We called TAD, Traveling Around Drunk. Once we were away from home base the drinkers were out in full force.

Dan Wesson vs Ed Brown 1911's **** EDITED****

Not sure about the 500 rounds mentioned here. When I was stationed in Calif., I shot with many law enforcement agencies on our ranges at the Weapons Station. Several had a 250 round requirement. The gun had to shoot 250 trouble free rounds before an officer could carry it on the street...

Don't iritate the engineers. They can make life rough. Can also make things easier. Needed some bolts for an aircraft one time. Ordered them and it was going to take about a month to get them. Went to engineering and they made them to spec for the USMC Camo cover (hat). Surprising what...

    986 Cylinder problems

I must have confused you a bit. The barrel on the 986 some say is a .357 barrel, not a 9 MM barrel. His gun had some accuracy problems with different 9 MM bullets. Looked here and found where some are using .357 bullets in a 9 MM case. He has tried that and the accuracy greatly improved...

When I got back to MCAS Cherry Point, we had squad bays. I was sleeping one evening when I got woke up to the sound of the "In-coming" siren at Da Nang. Coming out of a sound sleep hearing that I got up looking for a bunker to take shelter in. After the guys got done laughing several of us...

Dan Wesson vs Ed Brown 1911's **** EDITED****

Never handled a Dan Wesson. A guy at the range had a Ed Brown that he was shooting and saying how great it was. He offered to let me see it and then to shoot it. To me it shot the same as any other tuned M1911 platform. I then shot my original Series 70 Gold Cup National Match. Maybe...

    Rattlesnake

50 years ago here in this part of Florida, snakes were common in the woods. Not so much in town. Did see an eight foot rattler that was killed at the city dump back then. They are around now, but away from housing areas. We do have a couple of large Black Snakes in our yard. We leave them...

    Closing out an Estate

I was lucky when I was the executor of my Mother's estate. My name was on everything from house to bank accounts. I just paid off the outstanding bills and what was left was mine. Would much rather have her still around than anything else!

    986 Cylinder problems

    1. Not that we could see at the range. 2. Did not seem to be. 3. I checked the rear, but not the front. 4. Yoke and cylinder move and cylinder spins freely. I do not have it in hand anymore as he took it home. I will see him and his wife tonight when we play cards. Will keep everyone posted...
