    1. It has a letter, although the specific shipping information on these early prototypes isn't available. 2. I know how to recognize the authenticity.

    USAF Baby Aircrewman

That's a nice example of a Model 56, which is a totally different gun.

What's the truth: Revolvers and suppressors?

S&W did make a .22LR pistol for the USAF that was suppressed and had a slide lock. These shipped in 1968.

What's the truth: Revolvers and suppressors?

The USAF bought quite a few Model 39s in the 1960s and 1970s because it became the pistol they issued to General Officers. They did not issue them otherwise. Their standard side arm with the 4-inch Model 15 starting in 1962. The USN bought hundreds of Model 39s to issue to the SEAL Teams and...

experts needed to identify this 39-2

It looks stripped and buffed to me which is a potential disaster. Anodizing doesn't just color the metal; it hardens the surface.

What's the truth: Revolvers and suppressors?

Mostly agree. They've been around for 100 years and not much has changed, in spite of what the manufacturers' would like us to believe. They are bulky and expensive and the paperwork is excessive. There are a few applications where they are still useful, however. Killing feral hogs, for example.

What's the truth: Revolvers and suppressors?

No, sorry, not true. The only VN era pistol with a suppressor and slide lock was the MK 22 MOD 0 (based on the S&W Model 39-2) and it was used exclusively by the SEAL teams. The so-called tunnel rats were Army and lots of guns were tried and a number of experimental models were proposed by the...

What's the truth: Revolvers and suppressors?

It is easy to find such comparative data on all kinds of suppressors being test on pistols, rifles, shotguns and SMGs. Why not revolvers? Because it would be pointless for two reasons: 1.) they don't work; 2.) there is no need. In other words, suppressors work well on pistols but those than...

What's the truth: Revolvers and suppressors?

Not enough that you can tell it with a human ear. Actually, it makes it louder. The back pressure from the suppressor forces more gas, and noise, out the cylinder gap. There are lots of sources, tests and data online if you really want to look at real results. One source...

What's the truth: Revolvers and suppressors?

It was not effective. The Army experimented with the revolver and suppressor above. S&W made the cylinder longer to try to help with the gas and noise coming from the gap but it did not work. It's failure is what led to the development of the QSPR, which also wasn't effective.

    Another Grip Mystery, Actually 2

I think the only options are the Victory Model K frame and the M1917 N frame. Since these were sanded to size AFTER they were installed there are dimensional differences in all of them.
