    New to me 38/44 HD

I picked up this Heavy Duty 38/44 #377XX not too long ago. It had been re-blued and the checkering on the hammer was redone poorly, but I have always wanted one and, at just under $550 shipped and transferred, I figured it was time. I need to re-check my SCSW, as I didn't see serial number...

    5" 38/44 Heavy Duty

Shipped to my FFL it was $515, which I thought was fair for a plinker. It wasn't mentioned that it had been reamed for .357, but I'll confirm as soon as I get it in hand.

    5" 38/44 Heavy Duty

I've wanted a 38/44 for years, ever since I realized the error of passing up on a cabinet full of APD-marked ones for $300 each as a teenager. I finally got around to jumping on one. This one is apparently refinished, but the markings look pretty clear. I took a look in my SCSW and decided it...

    Nickel 12-1

Finally got motivated and spent 30 minutes with some Mother's Mag Polish last night. My goal is to do the same every night this week. I still have a ways to go on some of the problem areas.

Tired Old Hand Ejector .38 Found

She shoots, but maintenance isn't her thing. Since I'm 1800 miles away, I'd rather she take it to a competent gunsmith than shoot it as is. It won't hurt to have the lacquered gunk stripped off and a re-oil before shooting, I figure. $20 for a professional cleaning is worth the peace of mind...

Tired Old Hand Ejector .38 Found

Thanks for the link, DCWilson. I'm not sure what her plans are to do with it, but I told her to have a competent gunsmith clean up the insides, re-oil, and inspect it, and it's probably good for another 112 years or so.

Tired Old Hand Ejector .38 Found

I had forgotten about the 1902 being the round butt, which is the only way I can tell the two apart. Thanks! Here is a photo of the serial number on the butt.

Tired Old Hand Ejector .38 Found

A friend's Aunt just located this in her late husband's belongings. I need to look through my SCSW after work, but I place it as a 1st or 2nd change 1905 HE (#438XX). I'll update as I can get more information from her. I'm betting it still functions just fine!

    Nickel 12-1

If it doesn't function, I'll just have to fix it. I picked it up a couple days ago and it has a great action. It looks like it just sat on a rag on one side and was shot little.

    Nickel 12-1

I just picked this up for a little under $350 shipped and transferred. The condition of the hammer, recoil shield, and top strap leads me to believe it might be worth cleaning up. I don't know a lot about early Model 12s since most I've seen were -2s or newer, but plan to do some reading in...

A letter to S&W from a City Marshal in the 20s & Images of him & the gun he ordered.

I was really surprised to get a notification in my inbox that this thread had been replied to, and even more so when I saw the replies. As a student of history, it's very rewarding when research pays off. Welcome to the forum, Miss. Tyson and TenTea.

    22 Caliber Wish List

I'm a firm believer in, "you can never have enough .22s." I would still like to add a few more plinkers: Colt Officers .22 Ruger Single Six Bisley Hunter with LR/WMR cylinders Ruger Single Six Bisley Vaquero (I've only ever seen one) S&W Model 17 S&W 317 3" any Ruger DA .22

    Happy Halloween from Bagram Airfield

I was TDY to BAF last week, but haven't eaten at the Dragon DFAC in two years. I'm back out west, where we are a little more expeditionary and no one thought to put up decorations. Come Christmas, there better be a few, though!

    Heritage Series markings on crane

Thanks. All of the Heritage series were built by the Performance Center. If I ever bother to shoot mine, I will be removing the sideplate first, because I have never come across two S&Ws with as rough and heave of an action as these two. I'll be giving them a nice cleaning and polish on the...

Picked Up a Project Gun: .32 Safety Hammerless 2nd Model

Thank you both for the support and guidance. I heard the Gunsmithing Guns of the Old West book might cover this, or a similar pistol, but need to dig out my copy and take a look before I get too much farther into it.

Picked Up a Project Gun: .32 Safety Hammerless 2nd Model

I went a little beyond the point of diminishing returns; the nickel is now a bit gold tinted (don't soak beyond 12-24 hours in Evapo-Rust). The upside is, everything functions. The ejector works, all five cylinders time properly on the DA pull, and it locks up solid. After a scrubbing with...

Picked Up a Project Gun: .32 Safety Hammerless 2nd Model

No more finish on the trigger or hammer, unfortunately, but, using a couple wooden dowels cut to about 3", I was able to un-stick the cylinder and remove it. The only hurdle now seems to be the extractor.

    Kwikset Door Locks

Since being bought out by Stanley, Best locks have been very hard to come by. It seems Stanley withdrew them from the market for some reason.

    Kwikset Door Locks

Schlages will come with mushroom/"high security"/"trick" pins in at least one or two of the cuts. What many do not realize is that the difference between standard residential locks and "high security" locks of the same brand are often that the last pins are omitted on the standard ones, though...

Picked Up a Project Gun: .32 Safety Hammerless 2nd Model

I tapped the pivot screw out easily, and the pistol came apart. The trigger, hammer, hand, and grip safety work just fine together, but that cylinder is still stuck. Some of the color case hardening on the hammer is visible now. Here is a photo of it in Evapo-Rust; lets hope for more...
