    Collecting Themes

What a great ride! Believe it or not, I've owned many of those over the years. Our interests overlap! My collecting was always dynamic -- meaning that as different guns caught my attention I would sell to buy, or trade to get them. Civil War Era Tip-Up, 1917, Victory Models, (never owned a...

    Collecting Themes

In my original post I forgot to list an L frame. I know that newer models are outside the year range of our forum group, but I want my theme to be as complete as possible. It will now take me six guns to pull off my master plan. Note that they will all be .38 special or .357 magnum: Model 14-1...

    K&N Frame Revolvers

I think there is a generational shift of interest to newer Smith models, which certainly still include K and N frames. But I've noticed somewhat of a declining interest in pinned barrel models (pre 1982) and more interest in mid and later 1980s and 1990s models (that could also be price driven)...

    Pawn shop rescue 15-3

I agree (with both points). What better place could there be than this forum to share the prices we pay? Staying current with values is critical so we can know what is a great deal (like this one), or what is about right, or what is "I wanted it!" When I over pay I "shift" some of the overage...

    Searching for speed loaders

I agree absolutely. You can get a pack of two Bianchi speed strips for less than $10 with free shipping on eBay. It's easy to load two shells at a time from the strip -- not quite as fast, but there you go.

    Red ramp front sights

I always picked up glare from red ramps when shooting, but I like the look of them on a gun. White outline rear sights are a little distracting, but they also look good. The cleanest sight picture, in my opinion, comes from the Patridge front sight and plain black rear sight. Of course, one...

    Collecting Themes

Now that's a couple of great collecting themes. As much as owning, it's the "hunt." And of course, it doesn't exclude owning others that are interesting.

    Collecting Themes

I'm so sorry you lost your dear partner. My emotion was just was self-pity when I gave mine away. Guns are things. Friendship, fellowship, companionship, love are what really matter in my humble opinion.

    Collecting Themes

Are you really going to make me whine about my dwindling finances and look pathetic in front of everyone? :D You're right, though, you can never have too many. That's why I already have a 59, even though it's not a revolver. I wanted another one. I also secretly want to get another 1911 A1, but...

Do you mean a .35 Auto? Not too many variants of that one. I guess you really did have to branch out.

    Collecting Themes

I have a master plan for rebuilding my collection. I want a representative assortment of Smith models, types and barrel lengths, but I have to stay within a budget. So I have decided to stay with .38 special and .357 magnum calibers (that way I'll only have to keep one box of ammo around the...

    My first S&W at 65 Y/O

Just my opinion: Never apologize for a drag line. If a revolver has no drag line, meaning the cylinder has almost never been turned, then it's not really a gun. It's a statuette, an artifact, a museum piece -- never to be touched, or cocked, or fired. What use is it? Your new Smith is beautiful...

    Long Time Gone

I've been gone from the Forum for a number of years. Declining health, and an associated worsening attitude, had me give up my collection of hand ejectors and turn to more passive interests. I gave all the guns but one (kept for home protection) to my best friend. Now, after having very slowly...

    What calibers to keep???

    I'd keep .38 and .22 in a pinch.

    K-38 Masterpiece Model 14-1

I probably won't seek to letter the gun since I wasn't looking to obtain a rare piece per se. Although it's in high condition, it really is a shooter. But I'd love to find a set of diamond targets for it though, just on principle. I paid $550 for it. I beat on the guy for about an hour, and he...

    K-38 Masterpiece Model 14-1

I went to a show in Brooksville, FL today and bought a K-38 Model 14-1 (K431568). It is a 4-screw, and it has the L on the cylinder face showing the the dash 1 change to LH thread on the ejector thread. It is very fresh, and about 98% in finish. However, it does not have diamond target stocks...
