Back to the jesus nut for a moment, even though the cartoon above is hilarious. This is the side feature of the main rotor retaining nut. This UH-1H had an engine change down in Panama and the new engine could not produce oil pressure. Rather than ordering another engine we decided we would...

    Conversion of 32 to 32H&R

On the other hand, if you want to do the conversion once you have a reamer in hand it is a relatively simple procedure. One of our experts in the Smithing section can give you step by step instructions. When complete you can shoot 32 S&W, 32 S&WL and 32 H&R Mag factory ammo, making your...

Some conflicting 15-2 information help questions.

Hopefully USBP SW comes by. He might know about the 15's.

    5-screw pre-model 28

That certainly is an early Highway Patrolman. I have S111760 that was shipped June 9, 1954.

    Rare gun… 27-2, 6.5” barrel, Nickel finish

Not 6 1/2", but a nice 6" 27-2. I have a nickel 6" also. Like Model29-26.5 you have me looking for one. With the 6 1/2" 27's being discontinued in 1967 it makes for slim pickens.

    Pre 27 ID Assist

I have 5" 357 S101842 and it was shipped Nov. 1953. For insurance purposes I would go $1600. That's just one person's opinion. Others will be along soon.

    Rare gun… 27-2, 6.5” barrel, Nickel finish

Gopher Shooter Supply would get some cool guns every now and then. Seems like a bit of overkill though, shooting gophers with a .357 Magnum.

    Sgt. Mike Viet Nam Humor

This come under the stranger than fiction category. One morning I was up top, preflighting the rotor head. It was my (and everyone else's) practice to grab the jesus nut and try to turn it. Well, it moved!! The outer gear teeth (for the giant torque wrench) has a block that locks into the...

Preventive maintenance comes in strange ways in a combat zone. A paper clip might work in place of a cotter key for a while, but a rubber band? How about a little grease for that tail rotor please?

Question on Grip Screw, 4th Model Straight Line

I have my 4th model right next to me. I need to take it to the range for a little work out. I'm betting it will be very accurate with standard velocity ammo.

Tales From the East Texas Outback

You might know Ol' drover. 33 years with DPD and retired out West of the Metroplex. I know he has some stories to tell.

    4-screw pre-Model 29 44 Magnum 6-inch

Cokes would not be marked with a SN. Fitting them to a particular gun was unnecessary.

Picking Up an Early Combat Magnum Tomorrow

Life would be so much easier if S&W serial numbers were more like Colt and other gun makers.

    Oh those C and D S&W Model 10’s

Here are a couple 2" C prefix guns. Top right is carbon steel 38 M&P 5 screw while the lower right is an Airweight 38 M&P 4 screw (pre-12).

    1975 Model 66-1

I don't. I've had mine for 47 years and it's not going anywhere, except in my Don Hume holster.

Picking Up an Early Combat Magnum Tomorrow

I believe S&W was pretty busy during the 1956-1958 time frame, what with the advent of the Combat Magnum, 44 Magnum and the switch from named models to model numbers.
