I was thinking the same thing...what was the first British V model serial number and what is the lowest number observed?

    Victory data base

While I understand that the V model was physically the same as its predecessor, there is a significance to the introduction of the V model. This is witnessed by the fact that V1-V5 were made into presentation pieces, with President Harry Truman ending up with serial V1. The presentation pieces...

    Victory data base

You're right, that was me. It has the Century Arms import mark. I wanted to make sure it was in this thread and I still had some questions. I had thought the gun may have been used for tests because guns in that range show up as such in the Springfield Research Service book. In my Colt post...

I checked again, no RFI, but it does have an inspector's mark on the butt, "WB." Also on the butt is an ordinance bomb stamp and a small "P."

    Victory data base

This is my Victory model. It is serial no. V773. It has an asterisk where you normally see British proof marks. I have been told that this means it went through an arsenal rework in India. Any information on this early Victory model would be appreciated. I believe it to be first or second...

    Pre-War 2 Inch Engraved M&P

Here is my Smith and Wesson pre-war 2 inch .38 M&P. The gun is engraved, has stag grips and the original owner's name is engraved on the side plate, "C.R. Lakin." It is engraved in a style seen on Wolf and Klar pistols.

    South African WWII M&P

Understand, as I stated they are seldom encountered in the US. In this type of military production, 23,347 compared to 568,204 is not exactly high production. You must think that the 600 plus 7th cavalry Colt SAA's carried by Custer's men are common. Man, I've got to wonder what you think is...

    Competition 1917

This my Smith and Wesson .45 acp 1917 likely built for the pistol matches of the 1960's. It features an arsenal quality parkerization and the addition of adjustable sights. A number of these guns were built at Quantico for matches. Found locally, it is thought this may be one of them. I have...

    Barbecue M&P's

These are my gold plated and identically engraved Victory models. Probably engraved in the 1950's, they show some usage. If one is good, two are better.

    Indiana Jones Style 1917

This is my "Indiana Jones" type Smith and Wesson model 1917. Likely shortened by the Winfield Arms Company of Los Angeles in the 1950's. Still in the original .45 ACP caliber, Winfield Arms was noted for selling modified surplus arms, including surplus 1917's. Shown with its original Winfield...

    .44 Hand Ejector 2nd Model 5 Inch

Lee, I really appreciate your inputs. My post is really more about how we view things and less about the gun. I believe that being 5" it is unlikely they would have a barrel to replace it with. Of the guns I have examined, after market cutting almost always led to a non-original sight, since...

    .44 Hand Ejector 2nd Model 5 Inch

This my .44 Hand Ejector 2nd Model with a 5 inch barrel. The question, is it a factory 5 inch? Maybe yes or maybe no. It depends on your point of view. The gun as been cut back to 5 inches. Normally, this would make it a non-factory 5 inch. However, it was cut back at the factory. Without...

    1st Model M&P 4 Inch

I think that this somewhat inexplicable absence of caliber markings may be tied to the development of the .38 Special cartridge. Considering that the lack of caliber markings is extremely unusual at this point in Smith and Wesson production and cannot be attributed to something as trivial as a...
