    hi from Austin

Welcome to the forum and the USA from Western Tennessee. I've been a longtime fan of S&W revolvers, mainly K-frames. I don't own any Model 27's, but do enjoy my Model 28's. WYT-P Skyhunter

    MY NEW 586 NO DASH

Photos sure look like a 686 to me. Either way, a very nice revolver. WYT-P Skyhunter

Holy Cow!!! 55th high school reunion

I can absolutely relate! Unbeknownst to myself - I was actually "in town" when my HS Class had their 5th, 10th, 15th, 25th, etc. reunions and I didn't attend any of those. Most of my classmates were too "into themselves" or "impressing one another" and I just couldn't see the point of...

    Smith-Corona 1903A3

I found my Smith-Corona 03-A3 a couple years ago and she's a "shooter" for sure & certain. About 750,000 03-A3's were made during WW ll - SC made approximately 250,000 of those; Remington made the rest. My rifle shoots 150 & 168 gr. bullets equally well. There's always lots of interest at the...

    Old man learns new trick

I'd say for a "novice" you're doing pretty darn well! I'd put any of them to work. Keep practicing - you're doing good work! WYT-P Skyhunter

    Rain, Rain, and more Rain

My part of western Tennessee has had an abundance of rain this spring as well. My bride & I recently returned from a week's worth of travel - checking the rain gauge, I was surprised to see that we'd received over 4.5" in the seven days we'd been gone! WYT-P Skyhunter

Sell me on a new state

Here's another vote for Tennessee. We've got four seasons - not too cold and not too hot (usually!) and the seasons are basically three months long. Good health care (I'm +74), No state income tax, Plenty of varied topography to choose from (generally flat in the West to mountains in the East)...

Shooting a handgun while holding a flashlight

An adult racoon in 3' or deeper water will drown darn near any dog foolish enough to tangle with it. I've seen the result more than once. WYT-P Skyhunter

Salty old veteran I lucked into......

Nice revolver and "interesting" exchange rate. I'm in the dark as to the current exchange rate in $$ for silver. Care to elaborate? WYT-P Skyhunter

    Cleaning Patches

I switched to all cotton flannel patches years ago. Since I use a spear jag instead of a slotted jag, they're much better than recycled undies or "T" shirts - IMO - but to each their own. About 7-8 years ago, I tried some flannel triangle patches. I'm sold on them. I buy them online and am well...

At that price, it would have come home with me for sure! WYT-P Skyhunter

    69 Years Ago Today

That revolver carries her age very well! 69 years ago, I was a precocious 5-year-old! LOL! WYT-P Skyhunter

A wonderful reunion with my first gun - got it when I was 11 & it's still fantastic!

Thanks for posting your "first gun" story OP. I really enjoyed reading it. It brought back memories of my grandfather's Winchester pump .22 - that was my 1st rifle and now resides with my younger son. I wish you luck in introducing your DIL to shooting. As you know, it really can be a lot of...

    S&W 15-3

I purchased my 15-3 around 1982 for my then wife. She decided she didn't like it, so I've kept it - even thru a prolonged divorce. I have a 67 no dash as a companion revolver. They are both as accurate as you can hold. You just have to love any K frame S&W! WYT-P Skyhunter

Do Gunpowder and Alcohol Mix? Opinion Survey

"Alcohol and gunpowder don't mix - won't shoot and tastes like s***!" Those were the words of "truth" from my Dad and my shooting mentor. I do enjoy the occasional "sundowner" at the conclusion of the day's activities - but only after the guns are cased if they were part of the activities. To...

    30-06 cast bullet load....

My favorite cast bullet load for my 30-06 has been the Lyman #311284 pushed by SR 4759, but that's out of production (I laid in a goodly supply a long time ago). IMR 4064 and 2400 worked almost as well, but I settled on the SR 4759. I always meant to try IMR 3031, just never got "around to it!"...
