What after market grips are you using on your 642?

After tiring of having the snot beat out of my thumb joint I switched the stock s&w grips for a Hogue mono grip. Some don't like the mono grip because its larger, but the whole package still fits easily in my pocket. Good Shooting - Shooter686

Shooting my PC 629 Light Hunter. 100 yard group.

And to the original poster - excellent shooting! There are not many people who can do that with 2X optics at 100 yards with a wheel gun. As someone else said, many riflemen can't duplicate that - even with higher magnification. Shooter686

Brand new model 632-2 sparks through firing pin hole when dry fired.

I've seen it too and I thought it was kind of cool. I haven't checked for it lately, but hope it still does it. My uneducated guess is that it results from slight firing pin contact with the bushing and perhaps combustion of residual oils.....but who knows. Perhaps some trace elements in the...

The "Power and Thump" of the S&W's in 45

A 255 grain .45 Caliber bullet at 950ish fps seems to me to be a very formidable round. If you question this, just go light off a few from your favorite revolver - they will get your attention. No, its not a magnum round, and not meant to be. The other part of the equation is to evaluate the...

Let's talk about J-Frame sight visibility:

Great Information Thanks for the input everyone. For starters I'll give one of the paint/nail polish techniques a try. I also like the suggestion of using the "whole gun" as the sight - pretty much like point shooting a rifle, you get so you dont really (at least not conciously) see the sights...

Let's talk about J-Frame sight visibility:

I find the sights on the 642 a bit small and difficult to pick up in certain lighting. Anybody have some tricks to increase the visibility? Model paint? Nail polish? Custom sights? What about night sight or night visibility? Anyone make a decent glow in the dark model paint? Thanks as always...

What Grips for a Model 49 for my wife? Suggestions please

I find that the Hogue mono grip really allows a good grip and it covers the backstrap. Some have complained that it adds to the overall size of the gun, which it does. But it is still ultra concealable and more shootable. Shooter686

What is the going price for 442?

Just a thought - I have never been able to pick up guns at the prices that get posted in response to this type of question. If you can get those kind of prices - lucky you! If not, and maybe you are $25-50 over, its probably still OK if you want it. Just my .02 Shooter686

    Lets talk about J-Frame Grips......

I agree the Hogue mono adds to the size of the gun, and the tacky rubber makes it hang up a bit. Pachmayrs are probably next, until I have enough sheckles for some pretty wood grips. shooter686

    Early "no-dash" Model 642

Sweet! Mine is a 642-1, no lock, with the coated frame. I think I'm going to have to look for one of those though, I really dislike the coated frame. Shooter686

    Lets talk about J-Frame Grips......

New Shoes... Going to give the Hogue Monogrip a try.... The good - covers the backstrap, increases the distance to the trigger (my thumb and index finger were binding when pulling the trigger), has that great grippy feel of Hogues. The bad - they're not wood, they're ugly and utilitarian...

    Yet another Model 34-1

It's still a beauty! Personally, once I own a firearm, even on with some wear and tear, cosmetic issues, gunsmithing, etc, I tend to be protective of maintaining it in its current condition. Many times I have found the perfect knockaround gun just to treat it like new. Shooter686

    New 686-3

I have a 686-3 that binds with Magnum loads. Only I thought they were high pressure loads. It was not until I happened upon this site that I learned of the firing pin hole issue. I still have those "high pressure" loads and when I get time, I'll pull them apart to see if its the loads, or the...

Opinions: Swap Ruger Security Six for S&W L frame?

If you dont want a full lug in the smith line-up, its the K frames and the N frames. K frames reportedly had some issues with certain full house .357 loads. N frames no problem. The L frame solved the k frame issue. Now, at the risk of kicked off the board flamed into the next county - its my...

    Yet another Model 34-1

Hondo44- Was the barrel cut off on the last gun in your post? Front sight/base looks odd and the barrell markings go nearly to the muzzle. Good looking gun however. Shooter686
