gwpercle is right on the slow rust blueing method. I have used it on several handguns and long guns. It is the most wear resistant blue and produces a fine satin luster. All the old Parker and LC Smith shotgun barrels were done that way. Be sure to only use distilled water for boiling.
Mixed brass will work well for most purposes out to 300 yd. This past Saturday I shot a 200 yd. rapid fire service rifle score of 198-9X with match bullets, metered ball powder and mixed brass. Those two shots in the nine-ring were all me.
Attached are a few pictures of reloading supplies at Camp Perry last month. There was plenty of Varget at $140/8 lb. I did not need any Varget. I got a good deal on Win-231, BE-82, BL-C(2), and large pistol primers.
My S&W model 27-9 had the same short sight base screw and blast marks on the cylinder. This minor issue is easily corrected.

With optics, you usually get what you pay for. I use the Optivisor while checkering gunstocks. It works great. I would hate to checker without it. I got mine from Brownells.

Good news. Everything works fine as long as the moon clips are no thicker than 0.036 to 0.038”. The Ranch Products clips work great. I will be getting some more of those. The thicker clips are unusable in this revolver.
