    The model of 1913

Nice find! Just curious what the loose rounds were running. It would be nice to display a few with the pistol.

Tip Up, engraved cylinder, more photos

Murph, I’ll see about more photos.. when we took the grips off yesterday I noticed a bit of rust and pitting. There was some rust residue/staining on the backs of the pearl. I looked and did not see any numbers scratched into the backs. The fellow that owns it was going to put the gun into a...

Mike, thanks for your comments, you made some good points. I am lost with these early Smith’s. Without looking at the book, I have no idea where the assembly numbers should be, what was standard or what was special order. Silver plating, as well as pearl grips were “special order” for the 1...

Tip Up, engraved cylinder, more photos

Wow, that’s a lot of info to process! The fellow that owns the gun thought it might have been silver plated. I can see some silver popping through. The background does have a darkened color with very small textured vertical lines. You can feel the raised surface where the knight, castle, etc...

No. 2 Army, question on serial number, >> stock # matches

Thanks, Gary. You know if I was at a show and was contemplating buying it, I would follow my usual prelim checks: grips, bore, finish, over polishing etc. Since this was just a quick look at the serial number with backwards “2” I just ignored my usual “rules”. Don’t laugh but one time I was...

No. 2 Army, question on serial number, >> stock # matches

Stock numbers match. This time the assembler didn’t flip the number 2.

Also a few close ups of cylinder. It diesn’t look like regular engraving but more like “relief carving”. The scene is raised and the rest of the cylinder is cut away (??)

No. 2 Army, question on serial number, >> stock # matches

Thanks Gary, I appreciate it. I thought Civil War collectibles had dropped a bit from where they were a few years ago. From what I’ve read most of these No. 2’s were shipped to a distributor in NY.

Collectable belt buckles, **updated more photos

Here’s some updated photos with boxes and paperwork. When I first photo’d the group I didn’t pick them up or even look for a brochure or hang tag. They are all “new in the box” with hang tags. Boxes have some storage wear.

No. 2 Army, question on serial number, >> stock # matches

Murph, thanks for the additional info. I don’t know when the numbers were centered.. I have a later No. 2 and the numbers are centered and seem to have a different font. I did some searching on the forum last night and did find a number close to this one and looked like same font, it was also...

No. 2 Army, question on serial number, >> stock # matches

Here are a few more shots that I took today. There was glare hitting the bottom of the butt and I tried shooting from angle to show the depth of the number. I’ll see about taking some more shots this weekend and take the grips off too.

No. 2 Army, question on serial number, >> stock # matches

Thanks for all the comments. I think the last time the gun was out of his safe was for a gun show and zip ties were required… he just never got around to taking it off. Were the serial numbers “rolled” on or individually stamped.. I’m guessing that each digit was individually stamped...

No. 2 Army, question on serial number, >> stock # matches

How were the serial numbers applied on the No. 2 Army models…were they rolled stamped or was each number individually stamped? Here’s a model no. 2 that belongs to a friend of mine. He asked me if I had ever seen one stamped like this. Thanks for your comments!

Tip Up, engraved cylinder, more photos

Was at a friend’s house today and he asked about the engraving on one of his Smith’s. It’s not your typical “western” theme. It looks like a knight in armor on horseback. Has anyone seen anything similar? Thanks for your comments!

    Trailer Hitch cover…!

Was at a friend’s house today (looking at some of his S&W’s, buckles and stuff). Here’s something I’ve never seen, some of you folks may have - a “.44 Magnum” hitch cover. It’s about 4” or so in diameter.
