38 special police issue (i think) looking for more info.

If you are planning to shoot it, stay with regular .38 Special, not +P as it is not rated for that.

    Highway Patrolman

If the 28 has been just sitting for some 50 yrs, it is possible the oil in the lockwork has turned to gunk. Since the gun is in pristine condition, let someone who has proper tools and skills open it up to clean and lightly re-lube. Then take the step in the quote above. If the youngsters are...

    Trigger Shoe on Model 28

Trigger shoes were once popular, on both target and holster guns. Even a few LE duty guns sported them for a while. The two cup pointed Allen screws, used to attach them to the gun's trigger, near invariably leave circular dimples on the trigger when removed. More seriously, the shoes are...

    686-4 Rear Sight Blade

Still measure the blade that's still on the gun, as it may not be a spec one. If it is working well, such as allowing your needed elevation changes, then you will want to go back with the same.

Just bought my first M&P pistol

I fitted an Apex hard sear to my M&P 1.0 and found significant improvement in the trigger pull.

New to me 19-3 4" Blue

Looks like a nice, gently used Mod. 19. Personally I avoid anything lighter than 150gr. bullets in K frames. I've seen a few K frames with cracks in the forcing cone at 6 o'clock. Some of those will have an over dimension cone, caused by non-factory over reaming. If you are going to use this...

    S/W M67 binding

Did you measure cylinder clearance with fired cartridges inserted? Did you push the cylinder forward while measuring? Too much fore and aft "slop" of cylinder could be cause. Possible but unlikely yoke is slightly bent. Possible that barrel at cone isn't exactly square. Don't remove...

    Browning buckmark ammo recommendations

CCI Blazer for my Buckmark for Steel Challenge matches. Other ammo does not run 100%. Buckmark slide rails on the top (not bottom) may need a few strokes with a Hard Arkansas stone; do not use power tools. Best lube has been Miltec-1, which is a light impregnating lubricant.

    Questions about Walther PPKs.

I had an Interarms SS PPKs a while back. Design dates to 1929 and was modern at that time. PPKs tended to put tracks on the web of my hand. Accuracy was ok and functioned good enough. Horrible DA pull. The S&W versions of same have had a dismal QC record. IMO there are many other much...

    41Mag Pet Loads

Years back I also used 7.5 gr Red Dot for mid range lead .41 mag loads. Shot well. I've had good luck with Unique in mid range lead .44 mag loads, but not in .41 mag.

    41Mag Pet Loads

The Missouri Bullet 215 are what I run for mid range loads. 6.0 gr of HP38 (same as Win 231) is accurate. Avg 849 fps using Win LP's. For hunting, full power loads, I run Hornady 210gr XTP HP's. 18.5 gr Win 296 with a substantial roll crimp is accurate and warm, but not excessive.

    28-2 boxed! 800 (952 after T and F) decent enough deal

Don't think I've ever seen a European civilian-owned US made gun that showed much use. Seems like they sit on the wall over there a lot more than they are shot. The European civilians take good care of their guns to boot.

Pulled the BHP out of the safe

The Browning-made BHP has a mixed bag of effect with the spur vs the round hammer. Different hand types have different results. With Browning-made ones, including a MK III, I could avoid hand web damage only by installing a spur hammer. The SA35 comes with a round hammer that has the round...

    Browning Buckmark very stiff safety

I suspect Browning figures that a stiff thumb safety, one that will not inadvertently be applied, is a good thing for the majority of the Buckmark pistol's users. Mine can the applied/released with the master thumb with deliberate action, which suits me.

    Hand cuffs

I tote a set of cuffs in my glovebox and another in my go bag. More for a function of a quick securing gadget for a gun or such, than to cuff a perp. Risk to get close enough without assistance to cuff a fully alert perp vs keep at a safe distance is a big consideration. One of my LE sons...

    “Low number” Springfield 1903

A number of the blown up low number 1903's were grenaded by defective over pressure GI ammo produced by Winchester for WWI. While the risks of metal failure isn't a given in low number SC and Springfields, there still are high number guns of both readily available. Uncle Sam kept a fair...

    S&W 17-4 4" ??

Generally I have same theory EXCEPT a mod. 18 barrel as a part wasn't used. Maybe could not find one. Did have a much more plentiful used mod. 15 barrel and could sleeve to .22 LR. As the OP states, works fine.

    Vintage Crate of Norinco 7.62x39

This stuff is on the "no more may be imported" list. Seems like millions of rounds of it were imported back in the day and sold for cheap. Definitively corrosive primed.

    Mod 18-4 mainspring bind

Once upon a time, I had an early 625 wearing rubber Hogues. The hole for screw must have been drilled in the wrong spot, as the manspring would bind up against it as the action was worked. I simply located the grip screw to a non-interfering location and filled the first holes with black RTV...

JGS 22lr Sport reamer. Ok for revolver?

Running a properly sized piloted reamer by hand likely won't damage the forward portion of the cylinder. Running the same piloted reamer in a mill quite likely will damage the forward cylinder portion. For 1911 barrel purposes, our shop procedure was to carefully grind away and round the...
