Firearms you are embarrassed to admit owning

Dummy was to own an AMT Hardballer, traded for shortly after they hit the market. Big dummy was to pay to have a good pistolsmith install S&W K sights to replace the lousy factory ones. K installs on 1911's was popular some 45 or so years back. Now the really BIG dummy was to trade into the...

    How old is too old?...

Under low light or dark conditions a WML beats the heck out of any handheld light. Tritium sights still require a flashlight, either handheld or WML, for proper use in low/no light conditions. With good lithium batts, one may not need to change for 5 yrs or more. A red dot sight, coupled with...

    How old is too old?...

Without touching on old ammo or gummed up lubricant, a really old gun might have unreliable key springs. If the ammo is replaced with something modern and in pressure suitable for the gun, gun is cleaned and lubed and key old springs inspected/replaced as indicated, the gun will do its job. A...

CCW permit as form of photo ID

Good advice methinks. Those with a carry permit will do best when they "fly" under the "man's" radar. Being right and getting detained or denied isn't a win.

    Model 15-3 on the way!

15's are one of S&W's best efforts. Yours shows TT & TH as well as nice looking PC grips. If it were mine, I'd put away the TT & TH, replacing with standard width hammer and the slightly later .312 smooth ranger factory trigger. Or just leave it alone as it is. Enjoy!

Trying to get the stink out

I used Ozioum spray inside a pickup cab with cloth upholstery that reeked of cigarette smoke. Left windows rolled up a while; no more stink.

Please advise. What do you think caused this failure?

Could be bad anneal on the brass. Also contact CCI. They will want pic's and also pic's of box with lot #. If CCI has a questionable lot out in circulation they will send you a shipping label so they can investigate further.

UPDATE Post #52: I picked one - Hunting for a new 1911 - Asking for suggestions

A little trick to keep the grip screws snug, even with G-10 grips, is to put a oil resistant buna-n 1.5mm x 3mm O-ring over each grip screw bushing. A package of 100 can be had online. You will thank me later. You can also use some self adhesive sand paper as a replacement for the costly...

    LGS S&W M29 Nickel 4"bbl

4" 29's are nice to carry and, for most anyway, not so nice to shoot with full .44 magnums. The price you mention is attractive, especially with the wooden box, papers, etc. Like a "go grab it" before someone else does. Might make good swap material down the line, especially if you leave it...

    Springfield Armory SA 35

Springfield Armory did a good job with their SA 35. Well fitted, 100% dependable and more accurate than a service-type gun is required to be. The finish, while looking like a matte blue, is quite durable. Mine has been in and out of a Galco Summer Comfort ISP and a Safariland 7TS ALS OSP a...

Pricing a 25-2 and and an ancillary question

A 25-2 will shoot awful (big groups @50 yds) with .452 lead bullets. It will shoot much better with .454 lead bullets.

I hope the NRA rises from the ashes like the Phoenix

The NRA "ship" has sailed through some rough waters in past decades. Some will remember the effort of those in power to move the HQ to the Whittington Center in NM in the late 1970's. The ship righted itself in due time. With our support, it will do it again.

    66-3 trigger stop?

S&W used the same little screw that holds on the adjustable sight to hold the trigger stop. The stops were removed by the thousands, from duty/service K frames, in the 70's. That was either by the LE department armorer or similar. After a short while, S&W simply did not install stops in what...

    66 no dash trigger

The common non-factory update to a LE no-dash 66 was the removal of the trigger stop from the frame. Generally the department armorer or another LE approved individual did it. Most LE agencies get cranky, even to this day, if a non-LE approved change is made to a service pistol. That applies...

Model 629 No Dash pinned & recessed stainless???

I think I would definitely leave the finish on that particular revolver stock. I may put a different set of grips on, replace hammer/trigger with another type/width or perhaps change adj sights to a different blade pattern. I may install a spring kit. All these are non-permanent and easily...

    Help replacing revolver hand

I use a plastic tool that fits inside the trigger spring cut. Simply move the end of the spring to where it belongs, then slide the two hand pins into place.

    S&W 57 stainless??????????????

Electroless nickel is my take too. I've seen in on many guns. It's a durable surface finish that is more rust resistant but not as hard as hard chrome. HC itself is pretty rust resistant.

    25-2

The S&W Mod 25 .45 ACP will shoot its best with .454 diameter cast bullets. Compared to running .452 cast out of the same 1970's vintage the accuracy at 50 yards improved from running "minute of basketball" with .452's to "minute of tennis ball" or smaller with the .454's. I'd expect to see a...

    picked up a 67-1 today

The Mod 67 is a fine shooter, balanced to boot. I like Miculek grips as they are convenient to reload around, offer a quick solid grip and conceal carry well. They point naturally well. As a 2nd choice, a grip adapter may work okay with your wood magna's.

    Holster recommendations for a Model 66 6"

Take a look at the Sourdough Pancake made by Simply Rugged. Well made, top quality materials and function perfectly. I have a couple I regularly use for medium and large revolvers.
