Are Ponds a Viable Safety Zone if over run by a Forest Fire?

My experience with SCUBA was long ago but an 80 @ 1 cfm is 80 minutes. If you could control your breathing with fire roaring over head, twice that. I could get an hour out of old 38 cf bail out tanks while playing in the shallows / surface. (They were so light, it was like diving with no tank...

    What would you do...

Let me walk through this... you and yours have been fired upon and hit. In the drive by scenario, it's unlikely you'll have a shot... they are likely gone. If they are stationary, and you are still under the muzzle... your best move would be to cover first. Secondarily drawing as you can...

Are Ponds a Viable Safety Zone if over run by a Forest Fire?

I was reading a report of a missing couple in one of the Forest Fires who intended to seek shelter in a nearby pond. I wondered if it was possible to survive that way. As a lay person, I wonder if even being completely submerged, the super heated air would be breathable. I was able to find...

    Inherited revolver info needed

You late FIL's gun is an antique. A lot of antique furniture was "restored" and new finishes applied. Times have changed. As the others have said, refinishing destroys all the patina the piece earned as it's history through the years. Any, even little, original finish on an antique is...

    Nickel J-frame salvageable ?

I wonder if the finish was chemically damaged by a cleaner. I'd assume he already tried and it didn't work. No matter. It it was perfect, I'd jump on it for that price. I'd have to discount it to it's present condition, because if it doesn't respond to your magic, that's where you are.

    Pre Model 10...help me please

Agree a converted BSR. It could be restamped with the correct number and no one would know. Yes, the restamping isn't legal without prior permission. And you might get 100-200 for it. OR You could remove the grips. Hell, you could probably gut the hammer, trigger and internal parts to...

    New use for Smith 1911

I have a Ciener unit with adjustable sights on my 1911A1. It was a wait for delivery way back when I bought it but it runs fine.

    Kohler 14kw backup generator

My buddy had a big *** horizontal gas tank on a cement pad. His colonial era house is a few hundred feet up on the crest of the hill. He had an outbuilding "shed" built where the power line crosses his private drive. He has room to walk around the gen set in the outbuilding. It has automatic...

4586 with no mag disconnection from factory

The magazine disconnect doesn't affect trigger pull as it does on other, non-Smith makes. I had removed mine on my 39-2 but restored it after reading about a LEO saved by the feature.

    Kohler 14kw backup generator

We've had a manual connect 6500 Honda and it saved us yes 10 days without power, 12 days without power. My buddy is more remote than i and has a 'big' auto generator in a shed by his power pole. He was surprised how much propane it used during those long outages. He talked about a second...

    I Don't Like Plumbing!

We had one toilet partially topping up every 5-10 minutes. We replaced everything multiple times. Wife just fixed it with a pair of sissors. Toilet PHANTOM GHOST Flushing: SECRET FIX! -- HINT: NOT THE FLAPPER! - YouTube I'll be dipped!

Sw Mod 59 New Old Stock?

To me, the 59 has all the feel of a 2x4... unlike the wonderful feel of a 39 series. Personally, I'd go with a 39 or later 3rd gen double stack where the grip feel is more to my liking.

    Change Out Barrel on 19-3

I think I'd start with a 6" M66. The barrel could be cut and RB done with minimal refinishing. And it would look like this. 3" M66-2

    Trading Model 645 for 28-2??

My M645 was my last duty pistol before health issues got in my way. It never bobbled and was more accurate than it had any right to be. I'd buckle it on today and consider myself well armed. Dollars wise, it's an even swap but I'd try to buy the 28.

What Carry Rig for my S&W 65 3-inch??

My hand made mostly copy of a Bianchi 5BHL with influence from Safariland for my 3" M66-2. I think if I was making this today, I'd try to cover the trigger guard like I did on some later holsters.

5 years later, Walmart to launch its answer to Amazon Prime

I used to buy a lot from Amazon but frankly I can't stand their attempts to control / screw me over on shipping if I don't buy Prime. And their prices are frequently not the best. I really wanted to dislike WalMart but I have found them to have what I want in store and online. I have no...

Barrel rotating in my model 60 Pro

Does the barrel rib appear out of line? If so it needs to be returned for service. Is the rear sight loose, damaged? Take close up pictures if you are unsure. Check under the barrel, inside the frame with the cylinder swung out... use a good light and magnification... any sign of a crack.
