Anyone have their revolver reblued at the S&W factory lately?

5 months is ridiculous for a re-blue. How long can the process take once they begin? Couple of days maybe. I’m sure they’re busy but 5 months? Come on.

Snagged an NYPD Ruger Service Six

Well, $187 in 1985 bought you a lot more than $187 in 2025!

Snagged an NYPD Ruger Service Six

I got to talking to NY-1, a member here, about the Six guns the NYPD used. I have a blued one from January, 1987, and a stainless DAO one from the first DAO class in July, 1987. He said he saw a listing on gunbroker for a blued one in the box on gunbroker, that he said came from a gunshop in...

MP Compact 3.6 vs MP Compact 3.6 metal

There are metal guns and there are polymer guns. Taking a polymer gun and making an aluminum frame doesn’t change anything to me. Especially when the metal is some battleship grey. I really like my M&P’s and have several. I don’t ever see owning a metal version.

    A couple more NYPD revolvers

My NYPD Service Six has serial number 162-18818 and it shipped to the NYPD in January 1987. Yours was likely the same shipment. Last class with the blued guns before the July 1987 class.

    A couple more NYPD revolvers

What shop in Orange County? I never see NYPD revolvers anymore. Not trying to snag it from you. I have enough. I just pass through those shops all the time and never see them. Not like I used to. There was one in Goshen about 15 years ago that had a 3” NY-1. I passed in it. Very stupidly I...

    A couple more NYPD revolvers

I guess. But $100 for a S&W revolver wasn’t that much money even back in 1993. They surely were never gonna get cheaper. A new NY-1 Model 64 was like $190 from the equipment section. While it might have been a bit of a stretch to buy them all as a rookie cop taking home about $900 a month after...

    A couple more NYPD revolvers

There was a gun shop right near 1 Police Plaza that retiring guys would go and sell their revolvers as they walked off the job. I recall milk crates full of guns that you could pick from. I seem to recall $100 for a 4” revolver, usually Model 10’s but occasional Service Six in blue, and $150 for...

    Cleaning Patches

They’re so cheap I just buy the big bag of Hoppes patches. I use mostly 12 gauge size in my pistols to get a nice right fit. I’m not gonna waste my time cutting old clothing. They wouldn’t all come out the same size that way.

    Bodyguard 2.0 Safety Failure

Man, I am a HUGE fan of the M&P line. Full size, compact, subcompact, Compact 3.6", 9MM, .45, and .380 in the M&P Bodyguard 1.0. I kept going back and forth with replacing the BG 1.0 with the 2.0. I've fired nothing other than 50 rounds of Winchester White Box .380 and probably 500 rounds of...

    Heavy Clothing Stops .38 Wadcutter!

Hey! They have a glandular problem and don’t deserve to be ridiculed! 😀. Throwing a stick of celery at them might be a better alternative.

Age and Value of Dad's Model 36-1

    $30 for a box of 50 fmj rounds in 1981? I don’t think so.

    Jammed up Smith Revolver.....

Depends. Some people squirt oil into the action thinking they’re doing a good thing. But 5 years old? More likely a mechanical issue. But I’m not sure you can send back a revolver that can’t be opened to verify it’s unloaded. But loosening the strain screw might allow you to relieve the...

    Smith model 60-4 3 inch .38 special...

I had that very gun a few years ago and stupidly sold it. It was never gonna be a carry gun and I have more enjoyable guns to shoot for recreation, but I surely miss it, just for the cool factor. Looked like a shrunken down 686.

    Jammed up Smith Revolver.....

Same here. I bought a LNIB 15-2 a few years ago. Looked unfired but sluggish. Popping the side plate showed rust and sludge. Full disassembly and clean and it’s good as new. I tear down every used revolver I have owned and see. Some nasty stuff in there. Especially in sock drawer guns.

    NYPD M&P 1957

Went from Harlem to Brooklyn, eh? He must have moved to either Long Island or Staten Island. I used to work in the 77. Once you cross Eastern Parkway you were in the 71.

    .380 acp reloading

I have. No different than loading for 9MM once the die’s are set. Shot probably 400 of my reloads through my Bodyguard .380. No issues at all.
