Thanks for the quick response. While I'm on here can anyone tell me is there a web searchable database of S&W serial numbers. I would like to get an idea of when mine was shipped from the factory.

I am filling out the information request form required by the Smith and Wesson foundation. One of the pieces of information it asks for is the registration number. Can anyone tell me where to find this? I registered my revolver ( 686 3 inch 7 shot) with Smith and Wesson on their website but...

I guess I should add these are the Altamont rosewood combat grips.

MY new grips I want to thank everyone for their input. posted above is my 686 with the new rosewood grips (I just decided I like them better than silver black). They fit perfectly and came within 3 days. needless to say I am very happy with them!
