    500 durability

I've never seen one break. Several people I know have the 8 3/8" version, and I've never heard of one of them having a problem with it (especially not the WAY OVERBLOWN lockup problem that happened to very, very, very few owners).

    S&W 500 question

I have a 6.5" S&W 629 .44 Magnum that I love to shoot regularly. I've been looking into getting a S&W 500. I recently handled the model with an 8 3/8" length barrel and it felt so barrel-heavy to me. I haven't seen the 6.5" in person, but if it's as balanced as my 629, that'd be great. It would...

Are many people buying new S&W revolvers?

Yep, bought one last year. WAY, WAY too much hype has been made over the locks. The fact of the matter is that most people don't like the IDEA of locks. "It's ugly." It's TINY...it's totally non-intrusive (except for the RARE exceptions that don't really happen anymore of the lockups) from...

    Get a 6". Super accurate.

This thread has been a GREAT read!!

    Evaluate this statement please

"There is no reason to *EVER* go with .357 mag in a J-frame, as the significantly larger muzzle blast and flash, and harsher recoil of the .357 Magnum does NOT result in substantially improved terminal performance compared to the more controllable .38 Special bullets when fired from 2” barrels."...

First thing I thought of was the ejector rod is loose. Did you check that?

    WTB S&W 500 8 3/8" or Bone Collector

Price needs to be less than anything on gunbroker.com or auctionarms.com. Sounds kind of ridiculous, but i'm serious. I don't have to have one, but once we get into those price ranges, I'm willing to take a look and pull the trigger on the deal. Otherwise, I'll wait. :)

    the infamous INTERNAL LOCK

    No issues here.

    Probably a ridiculous question, but...

"It's ugly"? Really? It's tiny and almost unnoticeable.

    Model 627 4" vs 629 4"

The "carry" part of your needs makes me want to suggest a 627. Personally, I like having a big N-Frame .44 Magnum with a long barrel (6" or more), but I don't carry it everyday either. Probably a 627 for you.

    Probably a ridiculous question, but...

The whole lock thing - aside from the airweight .357 issues - seems to be more mind over matter for the most part. It seems to be more "I don't like that it's there" versus "it really matters".
