Brazilian contract 1917 - Heat treated?

I have a 1937 Brazilian contract 1917 marked with small S&W logo on left side, re-importer stamp "IA CO SAC CA", lanyard ring, flat top strap, and square notch rear sight (Serial 203,xxx). I recall reading years ago here on the forum that heat treatment improved in the early twenties (over what...

Botched Reassembly? Hammer notch above trigger notch

I ordered a different width, unserrated trigger from Numrich and successfully replaced it in my dash 2, 60s era, N frame revolver. I began reassembling things (return spring) and inadvertently pushed the hammer down onto its pin with the notch above the trigger notch. Once I realized this, I...

    45 Service Pistols

. . . with 4 and a half inch barrels. Wanted to compare relative accuracy of some recent additions (Sig and XDM) to my M&P. Shooting handloads (230 gr. RNL over Universal) at 10 yds offhand. Without actually measuring, they look fairly similar - thoughts?

    Rebuilt Chopper

I had a hack 'smith work on one of my 1917s years ago, and had nothing but problems since (action bound up, FS fell off, etc.). I finally got my turn at Cylinder & Slide and sent it off. Very happy with the results. Got a blister in the web of my hand right now from yardwork, so I removed the...

New favorite - long time coming

Been looking for an alloy framed full sized 1911 for some time. Tried to order a Rock River polymer framed 1911, but they seem to have their act together and nothing has materialized. Happened upon this one by chance on GB at a very good price (<$600). It's a shooter, too.

    HE Cylinder not opening freely

Hi, I have a pre-21, 4th Model, 44 Spl that I dis-assembled for a thorough cleaning. There was old gunk and some old rust internally. I removed everything except the hand, cylinder stud, and trigger parts (i.e., trigger return, hammer, bolt, cylinder, etc.). The problem before that was that...

SKU # of Full size E series w/ Sc frame

I have a couple of Commander sized Smith 1911s and they are favorites. I have been looking for a few years for a alloy framed 5" 1911, and wonder if there was an E Series made this way (i.e., 5" bbl., Scandium frame). The S&W website does not list one currently, and my SCSW is the older ?3rd...

    snubbie challenge thread

Can't find the thread I saw a month or two ago with targets resulting from offhand shooting of 2 and 2 1/2" snubnose revolvers at 10 and 25 yds. What forum was this in? Searched and cannot find it. Any help appreciated.

    44 Thank yous

Thanks to whoever on here suggested Matts bullets. I have been reloading .44 Specials with 240 gr. Keith-type cast bullets and XTPs for a long time, but always wanted a cast HP. I don't cast my own. I've tried the Speer semi-jacketed HP, but wasn't satisfied as they were designed more for .44...

    Nightguard Production Period

Does anybody know when Nightguard production began and/or ended? I know the 310 and the 357 were added after the initial rollout. Was there a hiatus or intermittent production, or was it a continuous output? The S&W website just says archived, 'no longer in production' but doesn't say when it...

from the 20s with convex rounded tops (no medallion). No screw. Moderate wear with 2 small chips. $30 *REDUCED from 40* shipped to continental US. First "I'll take it" takes it, followed by a PM. I have a few more pictures I can send if necessary.

1920s era K Square butt stocks w/o medallions

These grips have some wear (mostly on the right side from carry, I'd presume), but they might be serviceable for someone who has a correct gun to go with them. From minimal perusal of SCSW, looks like they'd be from a 20s era gun. I'm not positive they're a K frame as I haven't yet had a chance...

Real (wheel) Achievement - Big Bore Snubbies

Finally got 'round (ha) to taking a wheel picture. Prompted by my new Kurac combats (on the 329NG). Is there a minimum number to be included in the wheel club? Sorry, got too many hobbies already and photography is not one them. These are all 44s except for a 325NG. Six six-shooters and a...

    1917 Brazilian - grips?

I've just acquired a Brazilian 1917. It's a bit beat up, but I'm curious what grips (stocks) these left the factory wearing. Weren't the Magna-style grips standard then? Were these large silver medallions on all the Brazilian contract guns?

    Pre-43

Just so happened that I had to go to town today and heard yesterday that there was a gun show. Talked my wife into a 'brief' visit and took a 9mm I wanted to sell or trade anyway. Came home with this: A Pre-43 Airweight Kit Gun with a 3 1/2" bbl. Maybe someone can tell me about what you...

How to check after action prices on GB?

I have read here on the forum a while ago that there is a way to check historical sales prices on GB, but I have yet to figure out how to do it. So, for instance you could get an idea of what 696s, or Registered Magnums, etc. are going for. Can someone enlighten me, please?
