    I Miss My Tree

Thirty or so years ago a friend gave me 3 small maple trees. He had bought several for his house and had these left over. I planted 2 in my back yard and 1 in the front. One of the 2 died several years ago, but the other thrived and provided shade for a new patio that was my wife's retirement...

.45acp, 200gr cast bullet, 231 Powder How low Can You Go?

My standard load has been 5.0 grains for many years. The recoil is starting to bother my wrist. I loaded 100 rds with 4.5 and they seemed to work ok and the brass didn't go far. How low can I go with the gun continuing to function properly?

    May 14, 1804

221 years ago this week, the Corps of Discovery left St Louis to find a water way to the Pacific and to see what we had just bought from the French. Approximately 40 men traveled to the Pacific and back. If you have not read about their journey, I strongly recommend it.

    A Mixed Bag

I opened a Federal 550 round Value Pack and got a surprise. About half of the rounds are Remington Golden Bullets and the rest appear to be Federal. I have no idea as to how long I have had the box, but the sticker says I paid $9.00 for it.

A Very Good Dog Crossed The Rainbow Bridge Today.

Our beloved Tiffany left us this morning. She had been diagnosed with lymphoma 7 months ago. She went through a chemo treatment with the hope the cancer would go into remission. It did, but only for a very short time. She was in pretty good shape until today. We had already decided we would not...

    Gun Store Etiquette

There is a very large gun store about 40 miles away from me. On Monday, my on call job took me there. I had decided I need another alloy frame 9mm 1911. While in transit, I called the store and asked if they had what I was looking for. The young lady who answered the phone said they had an SA...

Loaded My 30,000th Round of .45 Today

I can't find my original set of numbers. but I do have a record of loading my 5,000th round in January of 1986. I have never been a competitive shooter, just a plinker. Most all were 200 grain lead SWC's with a few round nose for variety. Most of the powder was 231 with a small bit of Unique and...

    Ammo Lot Number

I just opened a bulk case of CCI/Speer 9mm I bought a couple of years ago. Since it is loose rounds, I thought I would put it in some of the plastic boxes I have. I thought it best to identify the ammo in case I forget or someone else finds it after I am gone. On the box is a bar code and a...

American Currency- Not Good in America

I just got back from my annual pheasant hunt in SD and stayed at 2 Holiday Inn Express locations. Neither would accept cash for payment. The first one told me the manager didn't like to have to take money to the bank. The second said they didn't trust their employees. So it went on the credit...

I Bet I Shot The Reload In The Oldest Case This Week

I was at the range yesterday and when picking up my brass, I noticed one of the headstamps was ECS 42. That thing is 5 years older than I am and looks to be in pretty good shape. I have no idea how long I have had it or where I got it. It is now officially retired.

    On This Date In 1957

All of our lives changed, the Russians launched a 185 pound sphere named Sputnik. It had a 1 watt transmitter and broadcast a radio signal for 21 days until it's batteries died. Many of us heard the beep beep on tv or the radio as it flew through space. It burned up in the earth's atmosphere...
