    908 accuracy ???

What size groups should I expect from a 908 at 15 yards? A friend gave me his to try out and I'll go to the range tomorrow. I have some 115 gr. and 124 gr. ammunition, but I've read a couple posts where 147 gr. was found to be the most accurate in this model. I realize "accuracy" is a...

    M&P Heat treated cylinders ??

After reading in SCSW that about serial number 316648 the cylinders started being heat treated, I wonder whether it is OK to shoot standard .38 Special loads in a revolver that does not have heat treated cylinders. I don't shoot +P ammunition in older revolvers but I do like to shoot 75 - 150...

.357 Magnum Brass for .38 Spcl Loads ??

I've read that shooting .38 specials in a .357 revolver with cause a build-up in the cylinders that it can be a pain to clean out. So is there any problem using .357 brass and loading it using .38 special data? Will doing that prevent a lead/powder build-up or is it going to happen with either...

    K-22 Masterpiece Companion ??

Not certain I have this correct so I'm asking here. Is a K-38 Target Masterpiece made prior to 1957 considered one of the companions to my K-22 serial numbered for 1955? I think the K-32 would be the other one. Just thinking it would be nice to have a .38 Special to take shooting with the .22 LR.

How do you re-tension a mainspring?

The main spring in my K-22 has been bent incorrectly. There are shims between the strain screw and spring to create sufficient tension. Is there a procedure for re-shaping or re-tensioning it? I could just put it in a vise and bend it but I don't know what the original shape should be. I'd...

    Parts source ??

I have a K-22 on the way that could use a different side plate. The one on it has been bead blasted and reblued giving it a "textured" look which I'd rather not have. I thought about putting a WTB ad here but don't see many parts for sale in the classifieds. Where should I start looking for...

    27-3 Ejector Rod Unscrewed Again...

I bought this gun a few days ago and the ejector rod was slightly unscrewed. I tightened it and shot 60 rounds through it today. Mostly .38 Spcl loads and a couple cylinder of full .357. When I finished shooting, I checked the ejector rod and it had unscrewed almost one full turn. My...

    Chance to buy a 27-3

I'm going to look at a 27-3 this afternoon. I don't have to pay him today but he wants a commitment or not. From his description on the phone, I imagine it is a mid range shooter condition. No box. 4" barrel. What he descripes as "large" grips. Is there anything to look for that would make...

Is barrel changing on a hand ejector a DIY project?

I posted earlier about my .32 pistol and received a great deal of excellent information: http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-hand-ejectors-1896-1961/255495-32-hand-ejector-3rd-edition-questions.html I have just bought a 6" nickel barrel on Gunbroker and should have it in a week or so. My...

    Barrel Wear and Jacketed Bullets

I'm working up some loads for a 19-2. A couple of the jacketed bullets are very accurate. Equal to or better than the cast lead bullets I have. For years I have "heard" that jacketed bullets will wear out a barrel faster than lead. Is this really true? Or will shooting a couple thousand...

Should I use a speed loader with my 19-2 ?

I have a 19-2 with these grips: When I tried to use a HKS number 10A speed loader, it hit the side of the grip in the cut-away portion of the grip and the rounds and the loader were jammed pretty tight. Should I be able to use a speed loader with these grips or do I need another style grip...

WTB - Nickel Barrel for S&W 32, Hand Ejector, 3rd Edition

Talk about a long shot...:) But I have to ask. The revolver I have was made in 1917 and someone cut the 6" barrel off. If you don't have one but can point me to one, that would much appreciated. Thanks for looking... Hank

How do you treat plated bullets when looking up load data??

Do the plated bullets shoot more like jacketed or like cast or swaged lead. I loaded a few 158 gr plated bullets over 4.1 gr of Win 231 in .357 brass. Not sure whether to go up or down in charge because my books don't specifically list plated bullets. Would this load be considered weak, mild...

    Model 19-2 Value vs. Model 67-1 ??

I have little knowledge of S&W so I would appreciate your input. I have a chance to trade my 67-1 for a 19-2, 4" TT,TH,TS, blued. Both in the same slightly used condition. Fellow wants $125 difference for his 19-2. Good deal, bad deal, about right, run for the hills, or what ???
