    SD40VE in Minn. Cold?

I bought a SD40VE yesterday and cleaned and lubed it last night and was at the range today. I love it. The trigger is not much different from dozens of DA revolvers and I got into 3" groups at 12 yards quickly. The groups opened when I started to increase the speed but mine always do. 70 rounds...

    Model 659 circa 1980

A friend just purchased a good looking 659. It's a tank. We got it sighted in but the trigger needs work. Double action must be 12 lbs or more and gritty. The single action has a lot of take-up, enough to throw off your aim, and the final 1/4" is tough to release with any consistency. If your...

    Five Inch 686?

I saw a picture on this forum some time back of a pretty 5" 686 with a FO front sight, wood grip and polish finish. I'm thinking about having a no dash M rebarreled and dressed up at the factory. The factory parts list shows the 5" bbl. at $139 and has a suffix of CH on the part name. My first...

    Cost to rebarrel No-dash 686?

I want to rebarrel my old 686 from 6" to 4". Anyone have a factory rebarrel? How much? Or, should I go to an independent gunsmith? How much?

    140 gr Bullets for .357

I got started reloading with Hornady #4 back in 1991. It steered me to the 140gr. bullet and Blue Dot and The Sierra book from those days listed 12.4 Blue Dot as the accuracy load. The 140 is a great compromise between speed and accuracy and though hot it shot some of the tightest groups I ever...

    Unique and Mag Primers

I know you guys have covered the topic from different angles. I just read all of the old posts in a search. The problem is that I didn't find a specific answer to my question. Lyman's Cast Bullet Hdbk. uses CCI550 for all .357 Mag. loads listed regardless of powder or load. They just never got...

    686 No Dash Modification

What exactly is done to a no-dash to earn the M stamp. I heard it's a primer flow problem caused by the firing pin bushing. What does the factory do to it? Secondly, in one of my 686's the hammer has a bit of free play and moves from the left to the right as it drops into place. Everything...

    Main Spring Question...

I was going through an old parts box and I found a bag with a few mainsprings and rebound springs. About 15 years ago I marked the bag as "stock springs. One of the main springs is lighter colored and ribbed. Did the factory ever make such a spring or did I get a Wolff spring in the wrong bag?

    Wolff Type 2 ?

I haven't done any spring replacements in many moons. I was looking at them in the Midway catalog and they refer to Type 2. What are they? Have the springs changed since the IL? OR if that isn't it, are my no dash through dash 3 different from current springs for some other reason?

    Common Police duty pistols-1956?

My Dad carried a pistol that looked like a picture of a 38 Hand Ejector I saw in a post. Would that have been a duty pistol in the mid to late 1950's? The barrel and front sight look right and his was a fixed sight model. Any ideas? Any pictures?

    Tell me about the 696

I was out of six gunning for awhile and I'm not familiar with the 696. It looks like a 686-what's the difference?

Lapsed 686er back in the fold

My first centerfire was a 686-3 6" back in the late 80's or early 90's. I shot that gun early and often. It led to a total of 2 dozen Smiths before I was done. Then I suffered some set-backs and found myself a single Dad with more guns than money. You know the rest of the story. That was 15...
