    Finally a 64 owner again

After years of not owning any 64s, having sold off my collection a while back where I had a 64-3, -7, -8 and an NY1, for reasons I don't even know probably to chase something else "cool" I missed having one . I have a 10-6 and 67-1 and they're great. But the 64 is probably my favorite S&W...

Why I won't mess with strain screws

Long story short, I bought a beater security trade in 15-7 about a year ago, but haven't really played around with it until now.The strain screw was pretty much destroyed it was so buggered, but the gun worked. I figured I'd file some off the screw, instant FTF on the first round. I put in a...

What's the deal with new strain screws?

I installed a new "domed" strain screw in my 15-7, and the trigger pull became very tough and the return sluggish. I noticed that even in new Smiths, the strain screw is flat on the end. Do these need to be "fitted" or filed flat? I don't get why they dome the tips only to file them flat at...

My 31-1 with some add ons.....

This is my 31-1, with target grips and a Tyler shoe.....also has vintage Trapper springs installed. It feels great with the Targets on it, and the trigger shoe makes the trigger feel nice. The magnas that came on it were soft and falling apart, it seems this was stored in a damp basement or...

Need opinions on grips for my 15-7 and 64-8.....

OK just some opinions needed....... My 15-7 is one of the Corrections trade ins, I took off the beat up Uncle Mike's that were just so wrong on this gun, and put a set of later production factory magnas on the gun. I think the "look" is good with the woods, it has that "standard service gun"...

Bodyguard 380 Insight model- bad choice?

I just put an Insight laser model Bodyguard on layaway , I've been reading about all kinds of problems with the laser....I'm thinking I should have went with the Crimson Trace model. Is anyone here happy with their Insight BG 380? Are the issues with the laser blown out of proportion? If I...

Finally finished my 4" 31-1 project:)

I picked up this cosmetically kinda hurt but mechanically solid 31-1 a few months back for about $400 IIRC. It had battered Magnas that were damaged on the frame side from rust. There's also rust freckling on the cylinder. This gun seems like it was stuck in a drawer in a gun case in a musty...

When did Pachmayr start using the medallions?

Just a quick question, does anyone know what year Pachmayr started using the medallions?

New grips for my 10-6 and it's "mini me" :)

I just got a pair of Rosewood grips made in Thailand for my 10-6 and 31-1 .32 Long 4" J-frame. They look good, fit is ok , kind of a "Ruger good enough" type fit:) Not perfect but it works. These grips are thicker than stock panels. They give the guns a "retro" look from back in the 60's-70's...

    Bodyguard 380 Durability?

I just bought a Ruger LCP and its an excellent "just in case" gun.....but now I'm looking at a BG .380. Can I actually shoot the darn thing? People talk about 3,000 rounds being a high round count for an LCP, I hope the BG isn't the same....

    Hand Ejector .32 Long questions?

I'm a long time S&W nut, mostly .38 and .357 revolvers. I'm new to the S&W .32 Long revolvers. I just got a 31-1 4" and I'm looking at a 1920's era .32 Long K-frame HE. Am I correct to assume these receive the same heat treating as the .38 revolvers? Basically a .38 bored for .32? I was just...

    Who else loves .32 Long:)

I finally found a 4" 31 for a decent price, I've been shooting .32 S&W Long for over a decade but this is my first S&W in this caliber. I've got a pile of .38's and just wanted something different. I've had H&A's, Iver Johnsons, etc. but finally decided to get something that can handle a lot...

    My new to me 15-7:)

I picked this up recently, it's a security trade in 15-7. For $300 I'm happy with it, timing is good, not much endshake. I wasn't looking for a museum piece and wanted something I can actually shoot and carry. I replaced the ratty half falling apart Uncle Mikes grips with a used set of period...

Need quick serial # info please!

I'm looking to buy this "shooter grade" 33-1, my SC of S&W only puts this gun in a "range" from 1948-1969... I need to know if it's C&R eligible, if not I'm passing on it but if it is I will put in a bid. It has diamond grips if that helps any, I know it just puts it at pre-67 I believe. I...

    Anyone shoot a .32 S&W top break a LOT?

I used to collect S&W top breaks, I developed a strange fascination with .32 Short :) They were just so fun to shoot, and the little S&W's were very well made and well fitted. Most of mine were the DA/SA models and some had weak SA sear springs and slipped off full cock. Others were out of time...

    New non-FG rubber Hogue grips:)

I just put these Round to Square conversion grips on my 64-7, I don't always like finger groove grips because they keep me from getting a good high grip. This gun is a shooter and didn't need wood, for $16 I figured I'd try these new Hogues. I don't need all my guns to be "pretty" :) They...

    New "Classics"

Add the: 4" and 6" 38-44 Heavy Duty and Outdorsman to the Classics lineup. Make a 520 "Classic", really not hard to do, take the existing tooling from the "Classic" 58 for the frame, they already made 27 "Classic" cylinders, add the 4" barrel from the "Classic" 27, pin on the appropriate...

15's...why no red insert or white outline?

I've been looking to get a 4" 15, from everything from K-38 Pre-15's to 15-8's, and none of them have red insert sights or white outline rear sight blades? I wonder why S&W never added this feature. I have a 67-1 and I love the orange insert in the front sight, although the rear sight is plain...

When did Wilson Combat start making S&W springs?

Just curious, how long has Wilson Combat been making S&W springs? Have they always been the same as they are now?

    Just got my NY-1:)

My 64 NY-1 joins my NYPD Service Six in my growing NYPD collection:) I put 18 rounds through the NY-1 today, excellent shooter, perfect mechanics. It came from a shop in NY state that sells a lot of NYPD trade ins so I'm pretty sure it's not an over run or a Brinks gun. Probably just sold...
