    M1 Garand 30-06 reloading results

This was my first attempt at 30-06 Garand reloading and I’m very happy with the results so far. My intent was an easy shooting M2 ball-esc load. Due to a medical issue I’m sensitive to recoil, so I wanted this to be relatively tame. I loaded up 10 test rounds earlier in the week and was able...

    700x in 45acp

I did this a couple weeks ago but didn’t post it here. As there’s been some interest in my 44 Special 700x thread, I’ll put it up. I found a good deal online late last year on “Blue Bullets” 230 grain coated LRN’s and decided to load up some cheap 45acp. I lucked into a substantial amount of...

44 Special light load results today

In my continuing quest to burn up this solitary pound of 700x I have, I am making a 500 round batch of 200gr RNFP coated 44 Specials. I loaded up 10 rounds last weekend using the same charge as my 230 grain 45acp load. I broke out the 624 4 inch and the 3 inch 24-3. I also brought a bunch of...

624 and 24-3 at the range today

Did some reload testing today as I only had a half day of work. Broke out the 624 4 inch and my Lew Horton 24-3 3 inch. I’ve had both for years but had never fired the 24. I think it had been fired before I got it, but the sights weren’t even close. I got them dialed in pretty close today...

    Accuracy difference between a model 14 and a 15?

Due to a medical issue 8 years ago I ended up parting with a 6 inch 14-2. I haven’t replaced it yet. However, other than the 6 inch heavy barrel is there any other difference internally with a 15?

Smith 45acp revolvers, moon clips, and springs....

Figured I'd start a new thread on this as I've learned some things through experimentation. I've been shooting my 625-8 JM revolver quite a bit and have had some failure to fire issues with different configs. I picked it up used late last year and it had a very light DA trigger pull. Turns...

Chrono results from today: 38/357 and 45acp revolver

I took 4 revolvers to the range today for some testing and general target shooting. Smith 625-8 4” Smith pre-27 3.5” Smith 10-9 2” Colt Trooper MkIII 4” After shooting: I’ve included previous chrono numbers for these loads with new info: 38 Special: 148gr Acme DEWC 3.1gr Titegroup, 1.16”...

JGS 22lr Sport reamer. Ok for revolver?

I’ve got a new JGS 22lr “Sport Finish” reamer. Would I be OK to use that on my 34-1 with tight chambers? Or do I “need” a Mason? The JGS has a fixed pilot if that matters.

Got all the Smith 22lr’s out today

Decided to get all my Smith 22lr guns out today. Did some thorough cleaning as I’d had some chambering issues previously. From top to bottom: 17-3 8-3/8” 41 5” ported 18-4 4” 34-1 4” nickel 34-1 2” They’re an awful lot of fun. The two 34’s have really tight chambers so I’m getting a reamer.

    19-3 snub with KPD stamps

I’ve owned this 19-3 2.5” for at least a decade. Picked it up at my LGS with the box and docs. I never paid attention but it turns out it must have been a PD gun. The numbers matching PC magnas are stamped “KPD” on the back. I’m assuming that’s for “Kendallville Police Department” as that’s...

    I’m weak…. Put a 2 inch 10-9 on layaway… ETA - It’s home!

Made some bad choices today and stopped into an LGS where I’ve found some jems. Found a nickel 34-1 in late February. Today I wander in and he’s got a 2 inch model 10-9 round butt. It has a little holster wear around the muzzle and crane. The recoil shield, forcing cone, and muzzle looked...

I think model 34’s are just too small for me…..

Took my new to me 34-1 four inch to the range this weekend. I put targets on it versus the Harretts it came with. The grips fit my hand OK but the gun just feels like a “toy” in my hands. I’ve got reasonably big mits. I’m one of those freaks that thinks a H&K Mk23 is comfortable. I shot it...

    Scored a 34-1 at the LGS today….

Stopped into an LGS today on a whim. My lovely wife was with and I asked if they had anything interesting. “Well, we’ve got this little kit gun”…… 4 inch nickel with Harretts. It’s in perfect condition. Has been fired but I don’t think the barrel was ever cleaned. Had $800 on the tag. I...

5 screw Pre-27 had to get some work done….

I’ve had a pre-27 5 screw 3.5” for years. Bought it from the marketplace here probably a decade ago. It’s been refinished and clearly carried and shot a bit. I’ve been using it for some load development and it started to have some timing issues. I asked my local smith to take a look but...

My 29-2 nickel with bigmtnman grips….

I jumped on a set of beautiful elk stag grips from bigmtnman for an N frame. They came in today and are just gorgeous! I tried them on a couple of my N frames but I figured they’d be perfect on my nickel 29-2 4 inch. I was not wrong….. It’s got a bit of a history. I picked it up years ago...

    My last two Christmas Presents…..

My lovely wife has bought me revolvers for the last two years. Last year was a no-dash 586 4” This year is a 625-8 JM And now after the grip change to some Ahrends I had laying around: She’s a pretty awesome wife!

300 grain loads safe for 29-2

I’m a sucker for big chunks of lead at moderate velocity and have a desire to load up some tame 300’s for my Smiths. My typical 44 magnum 240gr load is on the light side already, but does anyone load 300 grain for 29’s?

    Pre-27 five screw question

I’ve got a 1950’s pre-27 five screw that’s “been around”. It’s been shot a decent amount and has been refinished. It also needs a new hand as it doesn’t reliably cycle. I noticed this evening while getting it around to go to a smith for the hand replacement that the cylinder is bored all the...

Pre 27 needs a new hand….. ASSISTANCE NEEDED!

I’ve had an old five screw pre-27 3.5 inch for many years that looks like it had an interesting life before it came to live with me. It was refinished apparently many years ago as that refinish has warn pretty well. Even blued the trigger and hammer. For me it’s a shooter and I do really like...

    357 Magnum, 158 SWC’s, and Enforcer results.

I’ve had good luck with coated SWC’s in 357 with Win 244, but wanted to load something with more beans. I’m taking my family to the Dells and we’ll be doing some hiking. Figured that was as good a reason as any to load some “hot” hard cast 158’s. Basted some research I elected to give Ramshot...
