    Model 57 anomalies

I thought we'd had some discussion here of non-sequential dash numbers or lack of them in the variations of the .41 Magnum Model 57 relative to serial number. I only own one of the beasts and don't really collect N frame revolvers even though I have a half-century love affair with the Highway...

Fixed rear sight change on M&P

Guys When did S&W modify the rear sight on the M&P from the "pinched" configuration to the square notch? I've seen them from about 1920 with the pinched sight and my M&P from February, 1926, has the squared notch. Do we know when (approximately) in that time period the change was made? Thanks.

    American Series Knife

Gentlemen and ladies I usually hang out in the Revolvers 1896-1961 or the Revolvers 1961-1980 categories, so this is my first post here in the knife section. But I've run across something I'd like to pin down. I found a boxed knife with the sheath, apparently never removed from the box or, at...

Odd box for a Model 10

I just came across something that I think is unusual. Perhaps someone here has seen it before. It is a Model 10 BP box. What is unusual, is it has the solid line around the top, instead of the hash marks, and it says "of Bangor Punta." Most of them say "A Bangor Punta Company," and have the...

    .32-20 nomenclature

I recently acquired my third unit from the Hugh Clark collection. It is a .32-20 HE that letters to June 4, 1917. It came with the box and a Jinks letter dated October 2, 1986. On this Forum we have had long discussions about what these were called back in the day and the box contains some...

    Unusual "Birthday" gun

As many of you are aware I have, for about the last 7 years, been diligently studying the early postwar M&Ps (S prefix). Among the two dozen or so that live in my safe, one is my favorite (pictured below). I've owned it for about 12 years, but finally got around to requesting a letter from Roy...

    Steel medallions?

I recently acquired a pair of K frame Magna stocks. These have the early postwar style checking, stamped steel washers and sharp shoulders, so, c. May, 1946 to late 1952. Looking them over, I noticed the medallions looked different than any I'd seen before. So I got curious. I picked up a...

Here she is!!! .32 M&P home to stay

In February, I told you guys about a .32 Military & Police revolver I had found. Today I was able to bring her home to join my collection of S prefix M&P revolvers from the 1940s. This revolver shipped to Sloan's Sporting Goods Company, NY, NY, on April 21, 1948. It has a 5" barrel and is in...

    K-38 Masterpiece & ammo

So here is one of my K-38 Masterpiece revolvers that I have not shown before. It is a narrow rib version that shipped in April, 1949, and in 98% condition. Stocks number to the gun. With it on the bench is a box of Monark Mid-Range wadcutters that I picked up at the gun show this last weekend...

    32 M&P find at a Gun Show

Found a delightful gun today. I'm always on the lookout for S prefix M&P revolvers, as everyone here knows. :) So at the local gun show today, I spotted what looked like one with a 5" barrel. After securing permission to pick it up, I discovered it was, indeed, an S prefix revolver, but it was...

    Model 520

So! For those of you who love the 4" Highway Patrolman (as I do), here's a question for you. Anyone own a Model 520? Now, to be clear, I'm asking about the 1980 version - I've no interest whatever in the later, Fancy Dan version with the Hi-Viz sight that came out in 2005. I think of the Model...

Help on .32 Winchester grip frames?

Guys I've become curious about something relating to the .32 Winchester Hand Ejectors (.32-20). We know that square butts showed up sometime in 1904, on both the .32-20 HE and .38 HE. But I can't find any information on what the .32-20 serial number range was when the square butts appeared...

    Model 10-4 vs. 10-5

A question occurred to me today. Perhaps someone with lots of experience of the M&P model in the 1960-1970 period can shed some light, since my collecting activities on the M&P don't go that late (I do own a few examples, but not enough to know much about them). So here is the deal: The 10-4...

    Model 15 in Vietnam

On page 37 of the Spring 2018 Journal, there is a photo of USAF Ace Robin Olds standing on the ladder by his F-4 Phantom II at Ubon. He is carrying a 4" Combat Masterpiece in his regulation holster. I was glad to see this picture for lots of reasons - not least that Col. Olds was a huge...

Single shot .22 - PICS ADDED

Who around here are the top experts on the single shot pistols? I have encountered one that makes no sense to me. I hope to have pictures to post soon. In the meanwhile, I'm wondering to whom I should address my questions. These guns are way out of my bailiwick, although I have read the stuff in...
