Model of 1955 won in auction

I won this Model of 1955 in an auction a week or so ago. It is in beautiful condition. Some slight frosting in the barrel, which was surprising as the rest of the gun is pristine. Serial number S 161019, which I think makes it 1956 production? It has non-relieved targets that do not match...

Somebody got a peach today - K32 Masterpiece

Someone made a very good deal today on a K-32 Masterpiece with box (circa 1954) on a proxybid auction. I hope it was from somebody here on the forum. I think it's OK to post a link to a closed auction. (C) FINE AND SCARCE SMITH & WESSON K-32 | Proxibid

Another lucky find - Model 14-2

There are still some lucky finds out there. I got this nearly pristine Model 14-2 from an online auction (proxybid) for $374 out the door last week. $325 + 15% commission. It arrived last night. They had listed it as "80% condition", but I would rate it at 98%. Not even a turn line. Some...

K-32 UPDATED PIX ADDED (Possible to find a K-32 barrel?)

I have run across a K-32 Masterpiece (circa 1954) that is in nice condition, but apparently has had the barrel either cut from 6" to 4" and the sight moved, or a replacement barrel sort of poorly done. I know these are K-32s are "hens teeth", but is it reasonable to think I could find a...

Model 15-1 acquired this past weekend

I won the below item in an auction last weekend for $450. It is better looking than the pictures make it look. It does not appear to have been fired. There is some muzzle wear and a little on the cylinder. I would have guessed it was a "sock drawer" gun, except for the chip in the right...

    First "new" gun for a while - 2" M&P from 1948

I won the below item in an auction this past weekend for $400. I have been wanting one for quite a while. I believe it is from 1948.

    Ads?

Is it just me, or has 40% of the site turned into advertisements? I used to see this if you don't have a login, but it shows I am logged in. The whole left side is full of ads, and the banner at the top is too. Jim Hmmm: All of the sudden my inbox went from 91% to 100% full. Still shows...

    Old 439 - slide won't lock back

I have a VERY well worn Model 439 that I got from a sheriff's sale a number of years ago. When it has an empty magazine in it, the slide does not lock back. This is with both factory and aftermarket magazines. Could it be a worn slide release? I'd appreciate any suggestions. Many thanks! Jim

    - - Protester - - in Austin shot dead last night

It is interesting how the media spins what happened. The New York Times says the car aggressively drove up to the protesters and when the "victim" walked up to the car, the driver shot and killed him. Garrett Foster Brought His Gun to Austin Protests. Then He Was Shot Dead. - The New York...

OLD memory - Sons of the Pioneers

I don’t know why, but this story has been going on in my head, and thought I’d share it. One day many years ago, back in the 1960s, my Dad was on business in Casper, Wyoming. He was a Petroleum Landman working out of Denver at the time. In a hotel lounge one night, the “act” at the bar was a...

    Latest purchase - Model 639

I got the below Model 639 in a sheriff's sale last week. I paid $360 after commissions, which is not a smokin' deal, but OK. I have bought dozens of guns from these sheriff's sales, and have come to the conclusion that criminals do not take care of firearms. This one, like most of the others...

They say there are no dumb questions...

If there really are no dumb questions...here ya go. Has anyone ever thought about taking one of these things and using it to measure trigger pull? Change the "strap" to a hook or something? Seems about half the price of the cheapest trigger-pull measuring device I've seen. Portable Digital...

    FTF sometimes in my 39-2

I have an UGLY Model 439 that I bought from a sheriff's sale for $75. Terribly pitted up slide, and ugly frame. I used it as a test of putting a durable finish and having a cheap truck gun to use. Here she is in all her glory: Well, I finally took it out to the range this week to see if...

How rare is "scarce" - Model 17-1

I'm looking at a Model 17-1. I looked in SCSW and it says that the -1 engineering change - thread from right to left on extractor rod- is "(scarce)". Anyone know HOW scarce? The price is higher than you would normally see a dash-something-else sell for. I'm just curious. I know that I...

    Reverse serendipity?

As I was going through some old records tonight, I came across a revolver I bought...and immediately sold...because of serendipity. Several years ago, I placed an inexpensive bid on a 4" M&P model from the mid-teens based on some pretty crummy photos. It had what appeared to be a factory...

    Latest purchase - Model 645

I acquired the below Model 645 in an auction a couple of weeks ago, and received it today. It is dirty, and uncleaned in the pictures below, but everything but the slide appears to be pristine. There are some worn/boogered spots on the slide, I guess from holster wear. I got it for $500...

New .22 Outdoorsman - Ivory sight

I purchased the below item in an auction a few weeks ago, and received it today. I think I got a steal for $460 delivered. It's a .22 Outdoorsman, S/N 669206. It's in good cosmetic condition and great mechanical condition. The unusual thing about it is that it appears to have an ivory front...

    Latest Purchases - Model 59 and 459

I won the below items in a couple of different auctions over the past few weeks. First is a Model 59. It was listed as in fair condition. It is actually almost perfect except for the scratch you see at the front of the frame. Bought out of a sheriff's auction for $215 + $31 commission...
