    Label on Model 19 box

I have recently acquired an engraved Model 19 made in 1980 which came with the original box. The label on the box seems to indicate that the engraving is level C coverage but the gun has more than the 25% coverage I would have expected if this were the case. The box does have addition markings...

    Engraved Model 14

I usually find myself in the 1961 to 1980 forum but have just now acquired an Engraved Model 14 from 1958. Model 17 grips

If I have done it right here are some photos of Model 17-3 serial no 1K17837 (which dates from 1970) and its grips. You will see that that the right grip has a mirror image of the extractor relief of the left grip. Is there any possibility that this is correct? I believe the original owner had...

    Optional high polish

Greetings all, I have been told that at one time S & W offered an "optional high polish" on revolvers and I was hoping someone might be able to tell me whether or not this is true and if so during what period this option was available. Some revolvers I have seen do seem to...

    Model 27 in .38 Special?

I have been offered what is described as a Model 27 (I haven't seen it yet) Serial No S147746 in .38 Special . Leaving aside the fact that the serial number would suggest that it is a pre Model 27 I thought that model was only made in .357 magnum. Any help would be welcome.

    Why post incomplete serial numbers?

I notice that members have the habit of substituting Xs for the last two or three serial numbers of the guns they own. I can understand that for security reasons thay may not wish the world to know what guns they have, but they have already done that by posting the details so what benefit is...
