A 58 came home with me today.

I have to thank forum member Retired W4 for this very nice 58. I had a great time meeting with him today and really enjoyed getting to talk with him. I can't recall a better transaction, and I've had a number of fine ones here and elsewhere. Here's an S prefix 58 from 1967 sporting diamond PC...

I found a pile of M1 Carbines today.

I ran into a former co-worker today at a local gun store. He mentioned his friend's grandfather had passed away, and the man's gun collection was being sold off. I got an invitation to check them out this evening. There were twenty long guns and three pistols left. When I asked about the M1...

    What $350 will get you..

I picked up this extremely clean S&W 1076 and two mags for $350 flat yesterday. No box, but I ain't complaining. The odd thing is it has 291 stamped beneath the model number.

What's the story on these grips?

I stopped into a garage today and was speaking with the owner when he showed me three old, top break revolvers. Admittedly, I know next to nothing about these older revolvers. This old Smith has grips I've never seen before, but they do have the S&W emblem on them.

WTB: SAPD marked S&W Model 58

I'm wanting to buy a Model 58 with the SAPD stamp. Wear is fine as long as the gun fuctions properly. Please contact me if you have one you're willing to sell. Thank you, Scott

    Did some horse trading today

I occasionally trade guns with my now retired assistant chief. He's been drooling over my 65-2 since it fell in my lap a couple of months ago. Today, he made me an offer I couldn't turn down. He got my 65-2 3" revolver. I came home with this. The trade was straight up, no boot from...

    Farmer17....superb seller

I wish all online purchases could be like this one. Farmer17 shipped a great gun, maintained excellent communication, and even tossed in some .41 Mag brass for reloading. Buy with absolute confidence.

WTB: S&W Model 58 SAPD marked

I’m looking to buy an SAPD stamped S&W Model 58 .41 Magnum. Holster wear and lack of original grips is fine, but I’m wanting a solid example with original finish. -Scott

    Any info. on this .38?

A buddy wants to buy this, but he has no clue as to value or age. I don't either beyond it wouldn't be worth much to me. It has the original grips (not pictured, obviously) which are numbered to the gun, but he hasn't sent me a picture of them. The current owner says it has been re-blued. Ser...

Decent deal on a Model 65 today

An old acquaintance called me up and asked that I come by. He offered me his old carry gun, which he thought was a 686. It turned out to be a 65-2 with 3" barrel. He offered it to me for $600, and I told him it was worth more. He wouldn't change his mind. So, here it is. To my surprise, one...

FOUND... S&W Model 58 SFPD marked

I'm interested in buying a solid example in original configuration. Wear is okay, but I'm not interested in a modified or abused revolver. If you have one sitting around collecting dust, and the novelty has worn off, please give me a holler. SAPD would be okay, too. Thanks, Scott

Lots of ammo on the shelves this morning

This morning Bass Pro had more ammo on their shelves than I've seen in any store in almost a year. They had a number of brands and a variety of calibers. I was the only one in the ammo aisle a half hour after the store opened. A manager said he believes the situation is beginning to improve now...

Ballpark price for a shooter grade .38/44 HD?

These revolvers are really beginning to interest me, and I've never owned one. Generally speaking, what is a price range for an honest shooter grade example? Just something to plink with at the range. Thanks.

    Range time with the 520

After shoveling two-thousand pounds of gravel today I still had enough energy to take the 520 to the range for a little shooting. Such a fun revolver. Unfortunately, my range was in dire need of a mowing, so I knocked that out while I was there. I have a bunch of work I need to do to get my...

    Old school, retired patrol rifle

There's a local police supply store I stop by regularly, and one day I noticed they had a small supply of lever guns on their used rack. I assumed they were .30-30s, so I was very surprised to find out they were chambered in one of my favorite calibers, 35 Remington. I took one home for about...

    My bullets are baked.

I sat down a few days ago to load some 158 gr. .357 ammo, but I found I had used up most of my bullets for plinking with a 35 Remington. I had some free time the other morning and dropped a little over 500 bullets from a Lyman mold. After shoveling a literal ton of gravel today, I managed to...

    S&W Model 520

I've been after a shooter 520 for a while, and it finally happened. A big thank you to PNY UP for a very clean S&W. I'm low on .357 ammo, but I'll be cranking out a batch today.

    WTB: shooter S&W Model 520 .357 Mag

I'm looking for the fixed sight revolver from 1980. Ideally, I'm looking for one that has actually been shot and is not still new in the box. Holster wear, lack of a box, etc. is not a problem as long as it is not beat up and is mechanically solid. Thanks - Scott

    Police stamped Model 58

I'm interested in tracking down either an SFPD or SAPD Model 58. Actually, those are the only two department issued/stamped 58s I'm familiar with, but maybe there's more out there. Anybody know of any additional departments that carried the 58 way back when?
