    PSA

My PSA is in normal range, but I noticed at my last physical that it had doubled in two years, from 1.5 to 3. My GP says the prostate is a bit enlarged but normal and I should wait and retest in 6 months, or go see a urologist. Should mention I don't have any significant symptoms. Being a worry...

    Nickel plate experts help please!

Not guns, cast iron cookware. Prelude: I know very well how to care for, season and restore cast iron cookware. I own quite literally a ton of it, most very old. Now then, one piece I have is a 30s-40s vintage Griswold 10" griddle that I believe is nickel plated. It's entirely black with...

    DIY .38 shotshells

Watched a video of a guy making these. He sharpened the open end of a cartridge and used it to cut out powder wads from a Tyvek scrap. For the shot wad he sliced off a bit of a large hot glue stick, put it in his press and squooshed it down and then trimmed off the excess. I liked the process...

    Enjoy "Lost" and "Walking Dead"?

Then I highly recommend "Glitch", an original Netflix series. There are only six episodes in the first season. It isn't particularly gory and doesn't have any scary zombies, but the plot twists are very "Lost"-like and it does have folks returned from the reaper's grasp. That's all I'll say.

Can't find .38 special snake shot anywhere. Please let me know what you have or if you have a link to in-stock ammo. Thanks!

Had my 3rd cataract surgery this morning.

No, not for the third eye in the center of my forehead. Had a "piggyback" lens implanted in my left eye over the existing implant to balance it for distance and to match my right eye. Just took the patch off to start the post surgery drop protocol, which will be three times a day for the next...

    A Nostalgic Trip

Years ago I did a lot of rafting on AZ and Utah rivers. Time and responsibilities got in the way for a few decades. Last week a bunch of us old retired river rats got together for a little trip down a portion of the San Juan River in S. Utah. I've been down the San Juan many dozens of times but...

    A new litter of kitties

From a game cam along the creek about 1/4 mile from here. Hard to tell size but they must be born this spring as they wouldn't be hanging out together if weaned. I see 4.

Proud Papa's gift to the graduate

My son graduates from the Northern Arizona University College of Engineering and Forestry tomorrow with a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry with a minor in Vertebrate Biology and a Certificate in Wildlife Management. He did it all on scholarship and grants and is graduating debt free. I am...

Mini-lesson rant for those listing items for sale

I don't know why this rankles as much as it does, but it does. "SALE" is not a verb. "SELL" is. Hence: For sell Need to sale are simply not correct, nor are they quaint colloquialisms. For sale Need (want, must, etc.) (to) sell Pretty basic. Please!

    Cub Cadet tillers?

I stopped tilling years ago and sold my ancient Troy-bilt Horse. Never should have done that. Now I want to expand into a big, virgin plot that's never been broken. Rocky desert alluvium. Looks like the Cub Cadet tillers are competitive with Troy Bilt. Anyone have any experience? I'm looking...

Break my hard and fast rule?

Oh boy. What to do? I've always had a hard and fast rule; never shoot anybody else's hand loads. Never say never. One of my closest friends just stopped shooting .38-.357. He's an IDPA club director and range safety officer. He's the most careful, persnickety, obsessively safety conscious human...

    compressed air shotgun?

I need a pellet gun type weapon only one that shoots birdshot. I'm over-run with tasty Eurasian ring-necked doves but don't want to 410 them close to the house, barn and pastures. My livestock are not amused by gunfire. Even the .22 pistol with bird shot is too loud. Is there such a weapon? If...

Am I the winner or what?

Yippie Skippy! A pal is downsizing to only a couple of reloading powders. I bought a little over 2 pounds, not 9oz. jars of Trail Boss and a pound and a quarter of Bullseye. 90 bucks total.

    Medicare ??

Eligible pretty soon and would like to do some research on costs of Part A and options for the other parts. Went to the fed page and tried to estimate premium costs and was told I couldn't till I'm eligible. Wonderful. I'd like to get some pointers without getting them from somebody who wants to...

Those video ads put me over the edge.

Been meaning to donate for a long time but suffer from the "cheapskate" gene. Those Prilosec video/sound ads in the sidebar that played repeatedly just did the trick. This is without question the finest, most civil, most instructive firearm forum on the internet and it is worth every penny of...

    A long, odd story

We're always complaining about young people here, so here's a very strange and potentially sad tale. I have an interest in a local farm winery here. We have a kid, or a kid to me anyhow about 20YO who works for us. I've known this young man since he was 11 years old and I was his sixth grade...
