It is my opinion, based on experience and what I read here, that quality went to hell with the coming of the lock. Am I wrong, or did the slide start before or after the beginning of the lock? And when was that? Thanks

in the pawn shop this morning, find this .44 smith. 3 inch barrel, red insert front sight, pinned and recessed. 4 screw. owner says it's a pre 29. s prefix, 6 digit serial number. any idea what it is? thanks.
