    Question about N-frame stock serials

Can someone please tell me when S&W stopped serializing N-frame stocks (Magnas) to match the gun?

How to restore sticky Uncle Mike's

I have a couple pair of the renowned Uncle Mike's grips that are going sticky on me. I know this topic has been brought up on occasion, but does anyone know of a known cure (or at least treatment) to de-sticky them and hopefully prolong their life a few more years?

    DOC model 10-10 question

Ran across this model 10 locally and the seller claims it was issued by a Kalifornia Department of Corrections entity. From other pictures that I've found online it appears that some NY departments issued model 10's with that same type of ID tag attached to the side, but I haven't seen any Kali...

    Bagged a 617-1

After a couple decades of wanting a 617, never finding the right deal and accumulating other models instead, I finally filled that niche today. It's a dash-1 with book-matched factory combats in near-mint condition and I'm just tickled to get it, especially for no more than it cost. Checking...

    27-2 goodness

Made the mistake of stopping by a LGS not long ago, and someone had just brought in this (1969) 3-1/2" model 27-2 a couple of days before. How many of you guys would have been able to resist the urge to bring it home?

WTB/WTT: Grips, Ruger grip frame, bullet moulds

Looking to buy or trade for the items in the list below. I have lots of stuff to trade, including a variety of reloading equipment and supplies, casting equipment/molds/monotype, misc. pistol mags, holsters, scope rings/bases, brass, bullets, Ransom Rest inserts, some misc factory ammo. You...

    Model 58 S prefix guns

A local retired cop recently sent his guns to auction recently due to health issues. I've been watching for the right 58 to come along and was fortunate to be able to snag this one for a fair price. It had newer (non-diamond) Magnas, but I just so happened to have a couple of spare sets of...

Info needed for 65-3, Chicago area

Looking for someone knowledgeable concerning a 4-inch S&W model 65-3 that may have been purchased for Chicago area law enforcement in the early to mid 80's. A few years ago I picked up this gun at a gun shop in western Illinois. According to the SCSW, the dash-3's either came in a 3-inch...

First 4473 offense of the New Year

Today I got to pick up the 43-0 that was a LGS find a couple of weeks ago. Sure was nice of the previous owner to carefully preserve the box and original contents. And yes, from the looks of the included paperwork people were probably griping about the "out of control inflation" 50 years ago, too!

    Model 43 (1974)

So the LGS had a model 43 come in on consignment recently and it's tempting me. From the serial number it appears to be from the last year of production (1974). It's the standard 3 1/2" barrel, adjustable sights, alloy frame and cylinder, square butt with original service grips. This gun is...

A 48-0 like you've probably never seen before

<Caution, long read> About 5 years ago or so a friend was helping someone else sell some guns for health reasons. I can't remember now what all he had, but the person had a quite amazing list of firearms for sale; multiples each of S&W and Colt revolvers, JM Marlins, XP-100's, and many other...

    My latest FFL visit

Ran across this model 31-1 made in 1971-72 recently and decided to give it a new home. It was wearing a set of early to mid-60's diamond Magnas but I just happened to have this correct set of Magnas ready to swap out. It has a few flaws, but that just makes it a bit easier to take it out and...

Gotta say Evan deserves a gold medal for his packaging skills. Wonderful transaction and I hope to deal with him again some day.

    Sticky Uncle Mike's

Has anyone else had trouble with the Uncle Mike's J-frame combats developing a sticky residue? A gun that I bought came with a set of the 57009 Craig Spegel combats (from the early 90's, probably) and it has a tacky residue on the surface, almost like an extremely heavy grease. I have tried...

    36-0 date

I was fortunate to bring home this beauty today and for a very decent price. The serial number is 3813xx which--according to the SCSW--should place it in the early 60's. I'm thinking 62, possibly early 63? It's older than me yet definitely a lot better looking, that's for sure!

    Going price on 60-4

Just wondering what the "accepted" going rate is for the 60-4 full-lug, 3-inch target-sight 38 Specials these days. GB shows very little activity for this variation, but I did see one sell for $700 very recently. Also curious what "limited production" means for this specific model as indicated...

    Logo location question

Looking for advice, here... Long story short, my model 48-no dash (one year only production, 1959) is going in for a hard-chrome job because of serious past neglect and the fact that at some point a previous owner chose to have it parkerized. Due to the "skill" of a previous "gunsmith" the side...
