    Charter Arms advice

Got a Bridgeport Bulldog that’s worn, issue was the trigger “locking up” i.e. couldn’t be pulled thru. Discovered cylinder latch was retracting and then being allowed to re-engage the cylinder before it had started to turn. Wear on the latch and trigger. So, cyl latch and trigger replaced. Also...

    Unique early P38

The recent posting of a rare snub-nose P38K in the classifieds here reminded me of the story about the origins of that particular model. You probably haven't heard of Fritz Gerrard, who as a young apprentice worked in the engineering department at Walther. In 1938, the buzz at Walther was all...

    Premium for provenance, unfired, etc.

DVO's new "unfired" 28-2 sparks a question... We've all seen people pay up for an "unfired" firearm. We've all seen people pay up for provenance of famous ownership. How about both? Would you pay up for a gun that was a) proven to belong to a famous person, and b) proven to be never-fired by...

    Pocket 457

I wanted something big-bore and simple, like a 45 revolver but easier to carry. The 457 seemed like a good start. I prefer a curved backstrap, so I adapted a 4506 grip.

    CSX iron sights

I'd like to get a more precise sight setup for my CSX... something like the DeFoor GT504 (for Glocks). Basically a narrower front blade, no dots or anything. Can anyone point me to a source? On my last range trip I realized that even at 7y, the CSX front dot covers my whole target. :P

    457 dovetail same as 39-2?

Are these two rear sight dovetails the same size? Wondering if the 457 can be adapted to use the 39-2 rear sight…

    A weighty question...

I recently read a comment by Bill Wilson regarding his preference for 185g bullets in compact 45s. Having a column of cartridges that weigh less makes it easier for the magazine spring to lift them. That got me thinking about the effect of bullet weight apart from ballistics. When you have a...

    457 mod to DAO

This is an account of something I tried with my 457. Anyone experimenting like this should know what they are doing and employ safety precautions. The writer bears no responsibility for what you do with your gun! In the Smith and Wesson TDA design, the sear holds the hammer at full-cock...

    Tercgening 4506 grips for a 457

I have a 457 that wanted an angled backstrap – something Misters Smith and Wesson didn’t see fit to provide us with. Heck, even the 1911 went A1. I learned that 4506 grips were the way to go, and proved to be pretty cheap as well. They needed to be a little over half an inch shorter, so I...

    Full-stroke DAO pistols, different spring?

On the full-stroke DAO pistols (CS9, 3914DAO, etc) is the recoil spring the same strength as a normal TDA? Got to wondering when I realized that on the full-stroke DAO's, the slide has the hammer (and mainspring) helping it along as the slide returns to battery. This is not the case on the...

    4513TSW frame difference?

On the 4513TSW (with the 6r mags, the one with the “notched grip”), is the notch simply cut out of a “standard” frame, or does it have extra metal above the notch? A pic of a 4513TSW minus the grips would answer this, but I can’t find one. A good pic up the magwell would probably work too.

    Angled grip for 457?

Is there any path for me to get an angled grip for a 457, rather than the typical straight grip? I know the 9mms came both ways.

    The Kickin' Astra!

I've mentioned my enounter with the Giant Pig, and the instant demotion of my 357 snub into the "measley" category... On a visit to my LGS, as I ogled the various overpriced tupperware and derelict Cold War remnants available, I was strangely drawn to the orphan case at the end - home of High...

    Revitalize old suede IWB?

Any suggestions on treatments? These seem to get stiff when old and worn, but I’ve always liked them. Be nice to return them to better condition. Question B: Does one of you experts know what type/weight of thread was used in these?
