    Model 686-6 Plus

You did very good, but I believe you have a 2-1/2" bbl! I picked up my used 3" Model 686-6 Plus last year for $750 OTD, and was extremely happy to get it! Except for S&W's "3-5-7" laminated stocks, it's one of my favorite revolvers for OWB carry...extremely accurate and very manageable recoil...

    686 in .357

Welcome to the Forum! The L-frame Model 586s & 686s are very popular revolvers...they are built like tanks and can easily handle any type of .38 Special or .357 Magnum rounds. They were first introduced by S&W in 1980 and many versions are still being manufactured today. A better description...

Does This Look Like Normal Wear

The wear on the front of the cylinder looks like the finish is being blasted off by gases and powder residue during firing. That would indicate a poor job of cerakoting. If the cylinder moves smoothly without any rubbing or binding on the forcing cone, then it's probably just a cosmetic issue...

    Advantages of 681 over 686?

Buongiorno, Wicknim! There have been many debates about fixed sights vs. target sights with lots of opinions about the pros and cons of each. Fixed sight revolvers were often chosen for use by military and police organizations...perhaps to eliminate the need for any rear sight adjustments...

    Mod 19-4, 2 1/2", Round Butt

The Model 19-4 was manufactured from 1977-1982, and as Redwood32R2 says, it was the last of the P&R K-frames. The round butt grip frame was initially only available on the 2-1/2" versions, but it appears that later versions with different barrel lengths could also have RB grip frames. My minty...

New acquisition for my collection- S&W Model 15-3 2 inch

I'm sure that you're right about early California...it was probably beautiful. My wife was born in Downey in 1965 and grew up there. Her great grandfather was a Deputy Sheriff on horseback in LA way back in the day when there was still a majority of dirt roads. He was also part of the group...

    Looking HARD at a 2.0 10mm

There has been a lot of controversy about the reliability of M&P 10mm 2.0 pistols and you can find a few Posts about that in this section. But I believe most of those issues involve the 4" bbl. versions. I bought a 4.6" bbl. M&P 10mm 2.0 a couple of years ago for the same reasons that you...

New acquisition for my collection- S&W Model 15-3 2 inch

Model 15s make great snubbies! Here's our Model 15-2 (ca. 1962/1964) that belonged to my wife's grandfather. It was his EDC when he was a Chief of Detectives in Kommiefornia back in the 1960s and 1970.

New to me 28-2 Snub Nose

Agreed! I'll take target sights on a snubbie any day! I can shoot much better with target sights at just about any distance. I do have a 642-2 and Colt Detective Special with service sights, and they're good shooters...I just don't shoot them as well at any distance over about 7 yards.

    .32-20 HE

In the early 1920s, S&W changed the right side barrel caliber stamping from ".32 WCF" to ".32-20 CTG". My 6" .32-20 HE, aka Model 1905 4th Change, is ca. 1924 (s/n 118705). 1905 4th Change revolvers were manufactured from 1915-1940 with 4", 5", or 6" bbls. I'm thinking that yours was...

    Chief James E. Boggs

I have to agree with [email protected] some bronze wool with a good solvent, followed by some RenWax. Be particularly gentle on the name engraving, because this revolver has some great provenance. Looking at the picture of the left side of the barrel, it looks to me like the barrel was...

I need advice on grips for my K22 Masterpiece.

The s/n of your revolver (K323372) does indicate a manufacture date of 1958, so first of all, when you open the cylinder is there a model no. stamped in the cylinder yoke recess along with the s/n? S&W changed to model numbers (Model 17) from names (K22 Masterpiece) in 1957, so yours is either...

Looking to find any value before I send it off to the father in law up north for 50 bucks serial number 191589 was MP 1906-1909 can’t find much online

Welcome to the Forum! S&W manufactured millions of .38 M&P revolvers (blued and nickel) over many decades, so your 4" bbl. revolver is not rare or particularly valuable. However, it is over 100 years old...the s/n indicates it was manufactured sometime between 1909-1915 (94,803 were...

The Air Force Has Completed its Inspection of their SIG M18 Service Pistols

It will be interesting to see how the ramifications of this decision affect police departments and civilians around the country that have already banned or paused using P320 variants. I would love to be able to shoot my P320 X5 Legion again at my local ranges.

    Need Some Help with "Puzzle"

A sad ending for those firearms, but it was very honorable of you for trying to save them. If it were me, I think I would just find a local police-sponsored gun buy back program and turn them in for gift cards! It's probably not worth the time or effort to salvage parts. Good luck!

    Identify early hand ejector

Welcome to the Forum! You made a nice entrance with your M&P target .32-20 (.32WCF) from the early 1920s. These are often referred to as Model of 1905 4th Change. The target models are always in higher demand than the fixed sight models, and yours is in nice condition with original stocks...

Do you have a belt that looks like this ?

LOL! My belts have similar creases and enlarged belt buckle holes but that's mostly due to changes in my waistline over the years! Thankfully, with some hard work, I'm getting back down to my fighting weight and it's much more comfortable to wear an IWB or AIWB holster again. I'm like...

    Registered magnum

Very very nice, and my favorite barrel length! An RM like yours is on my short list of grail guns, but I'd have to sell one of my kidneys to buy one! You are very fortunate to have acquired that beauty, enjoy!

    ID my revolver

Welcome to the Forum! You have a 5-screw ".357 Magnum" (aka pre-Model 27) ca. 1954-1955. Many Forum members feel that the 5" bbl. is the most aesthetically pleasing and balanced of all the .357 Magnums. Enjoy!

Fallout from the SIG P320 Uncommanded Discharges

I'm afraid that I'm in the same boat. I really like my P320 X5 Legion, but I can no longer compete with it or even shoot it at the range. I'm not sure what to do with it now except let it sit in the safe. I don't think any reputable shops will accept it as a trade in, and I'm not comfortable...
